The show is even worse than I remember it being. The pacing is just sloppy, and it really seems like the show is desperate to try and seem hip and edgy. Seriously, “schway”?
Why exactly do people love the show so much?

Wasn't "schway" just a made up future word? It's like how Marvel 2099 had "Shock" as a curse word.

I remember the show being pretty good but it didn't have very good villains.
The Batman TAS show had an iconic group of villains to choose from like Joker, Penguin, Two Face, Scarecrow, Mr Freeze etc.
But Batman Beyond....the only villain I remember was the green skeleton guy from the first episodes.

The Beyond villains were mostly meant to be futuristic versions of Batman's own rogues, and accidentally came off a bit like Spider-mans' as well.
Blight was supposed to be the Joker (a guy disfigured by Batman) but was more like the Green Goblin, for example. Ten from the Royal Flush Gang was supposed to be modeled on Catwoman but seemed more like Black Cat, etc.

That would be Blight. Also Inque was a great villain. I loved the Royal Flush Gang. Spellbinder and Shriek were also some of my favorites.

The show is even worse than I remember it being. Why exactly do people love the show so much? Bruce as a mentor. Some truly dark episodes and situations that rival BTAS. A fantastic voice cast (as was the case for all the DCAU), and my favorite Batman costume and Batmobile. I don't see how the pacing was sloppy (particularly the first season). It did what even BTAS didn't do: it had a running story arc playing across several episodes.
Can't really disagree with that. The show was built around a teenager.

Can't really disagree with that. The show was built around a teenager. Regarding the pacing, it’s a bit difficult to explain, but I feel like things happen too quickly in the show. There’s not a whole lot of time to breathe. A good example would be the episode where Terry starts dating a member of the Royal Flush gang. They are barely shown spending any time together in the episode, yet we’re supposed to buy that she’s his Catwoman? They literally start kissing within a minute of speaking to one another.

I frankly think it’s pretty stupid. How anyone is able to take what the Joker did to Tim Drake seriously is beyond (no pun intended) me. I don’t know about you guys, but the image of a miniature Joker is absolutely ridiculous.

On that note, the whole twist of the movie was also kind of stupid, in my opinion. Since when did the Joker become a Lex Luthor level genius?

Well, they explained it later that he stole technology from Cadmus. They were super advanced enough to create something crazy like that.
Seeing how he implanted in Tim back then, it's possible that he always planned for them to undo the Mini-Joker transformation and miss out on the implanted DNA thing so it could activate decades later.

I think Batman: The Animated Series is superb, but, no, I never got into this one. (Actually, I never got into B:TAS when I was the right age for it either, but that’s mostly because I didn’t watch it all that often. As with most things, it takes me years to catch up.) I didn’t like the futuristic theme with Batman, I didn’t like the new Batman character, I didn’t like how they tried to make up nonsensical overarching storylines. (Y’know, I’ve come to the conclusion that I just have an immedicable bias against overarching storylines, shared universes, etc. My misfortune, probably.)
Give me the Batman: The Animated Series or the Adam West Batman any day.

That's how he makes all his Joker chemicals.

While we’re on the subject of Batman Beyond, I don’t understand how people can be so forgiving over the fact that the show explicitly stated that Bruce and Barbara were involved at some point. Bruce Timm’s fetish for that pairing is just bizarre.

To each their own. I personally thought it came across as them trying too hard to show how edgy they are. That's fine. However, it did serve the story. There needed to be a violent climax to the Batman/Joker feud. It's the only way it could end. One of them was not going to make it to old age.

Bruce Timm’s fetish for that pairing is just bizarre. Agreed there. Never cared for that. But it's not enough to bother me. Batgirl was an adult after all. And unlike for Dick, Bruce was never a father figure for her.
