Adam Smith - economist supply and demand James Watt - engineer steam engine Robert Burns - poet Sir Walter Scott - der James Clerk Maxwell - theory electromagnetic radiation Alexander Graham Bell - telephone Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - detective fiction Alexander Fleming - penicillin John Logie Baird - engineer television Nessie - monster To add to your awesome list I will mention Sir Walter Scott. He was an extremely brilliant novelist who gave us such great novels as Ivanhoe, Waverley and Rob Roy. I heartily recommend his works to any literature lover.
Adam Smith is one of the most influential person in modern history of mankind. Great that Arlon mentioned him.

Early in August I am going to Scotland. I have many reasons to go. My mother's family came from there, I was there for a short time last year and want to discover more, butt the main reason is that I am determined to find 'True Scots/man/men'. Luckily I am going in haggis season as well and my tour has several haggis hunts planned for our entertainment in the Highlands. I will be very cautious. When it comes to the true Scotsman, what should I look for? If you read what haggis is made of, you might want to pass on eating it.
In many first world countries, you can't buy it because of how it's prepared and because of the ingredients.

Ivanhoe was required reading where I went to school. I did mention him from the outset. The "der" was a joke based on his name "Scott."

I ate it last year when I was last in Scotland and it was absolutely delicious. I love it. It is just like an extra tasty textured(with oats) sausage. However I eat liverbacon and onions tongue and steak and kidney pie as well!

I was NOT speaking to you.
What is your idea of a religious "quest", looking under kilts? Then don't answer. Ever.
