One good thing to come out of it. The new GOP tax law will force churches to pay taxes for the first time. And the churches are furious. Under the new tax bill, churches, synagogues, mosques, and other faith-based nonprofits will now have to pay a 21 percent tax on the benefits they offer employees, benefits such as transportation, meals, and gym memberships. As will hospitals, colleges, orchestras, and other historically tax-exempt organizations. www.patheos.com/blogs/progressivesecularhumanist/2018/06/good-news-new-gop-law-is-taxing-churches/Edit: They're probably wrong. For purposes of U.S. tax law, churches are considered to be public charities, also known as Section 501(c)(3) organizations. As such, they are generally exempt from federal, state, and local income and property taxes. So it will just be hospitals, colleges, orchestras and other historically tax-exempt organizations who get to pay it.

It's just on benefits.
If the church has employees, they were paying these types of things anyway unless their staffs took vows of poverty or something.
The glee the article takes on the notion of taxing churches is absurd since it doesn;t conser the repercussions of that if it were true...But it's not.
The article is really just revealing how stupid Trump's tax reform was to all non-profits (as well as individuals).
