orange and black just got boned. early whistle and a horrible call by the ref negates a goal. I hate this rule just like the NFL - why isn't it reviewable? just because the ref blew the whistle and screwed up making a horrible call? it's rules like this that need to change - and obvious goal wiped out because the ref screwed up and blew the whistle. Once the whistle's blown the play is done. A review won't change it. Flyers had a franchise record 28 shots in the second.

Two things have happened that I honestly thought were impossible a few months ago.
1. Both the Blues and Blackhawks are competing for a playoff spot. Both teams could have easily packed it in, but these are two proud franchises.
2. The Kings are no longer in last place in their division. Now THAT'S a big one to me, they were so far down not long ago. Thank God for the Ducks, who apparently HAVE decided to pack it in.

Most teams compete most nights in the NHL-- how many teams can you truly count in or out of making the playoffs? The NBA's the opposite. And the playoffs don't improve the competitive balance in the NBA.

Just because a whistle blows - should not mean the play cannot be reviewed if it is an obvious goal - which is was last night.
This leads to a slippery slope a bit - as I know most people are tired of 'reviews'; and one may argue - 'Well - if players hear a whistle - they completely stop playing'.
I get this argument; however goals like last night were pretty much a 'Bang Bang' play and Murray never had control of the puck for even a nanosecond.

I dunno if the NHL would go far that. Even if a goal is scored before a ref gets a chance to blow the whistle on a play he thinks is dead, i.e. to the players the game is still going on, the goal is waved off and not counted. A goal getting scored after a ref blows the whistle isn't getting overturned and I don't see the NHL changing this rule. Play is on whistle to (intended) whistle. So in last night's case, even if the goal was scored before the ref got a chance to blow the whistle, the goal wouldn't have counted.

And this needs to change IMO if the puck is on it's way over crease - whistle or no whistle - i.e. a 'Bang Bang' play - should be allowed to be reviewed and overturned due to human error.

Malkin gets a game suspension for his stick swinging last night. About what was expected.

Matthews reached 100 career goals on his first of 2 tallies against Vegas last night. Third fewest games needed in Leafs history behind Charlie Conacher and Reg Noble.

The Oilers are utterly embarrassing. They need to purge their entire management and front office.

Flyers take the 1st of a home and home vs. Detroit. Can't wait for the 'Stadium Series' game next Saturday - Pens at Flyers outdoors at the Linc where the Eagles play - should be an awesome sight/atmosphere

The Flyers are on the outskirts of the playoff picture, but aren't off the page either. They put together a good run, you never know they might sneak in. Meanwhile, my Bruins have won 5 in a row and have now moved ahead of those Leafs in the division. The Bruins are looking real good right now, even with Pastrnak out for awhile after "falling" at some team organised social event. The B's may be a good trade away from being a serious Cup team.

I'll be very impressed if Boston can take down the Lightning in the playoffs.

99 points in 60 games for Kucherov. On pace for the best season since the 04/05 lockout.

Scoring is definitely up. When's the last time we had multiple 100 point seasons? We're probably on pace for the most in a season since around '95-'96.

Absolutely WILD game last night between the Bruins and Sharks at the Tank. Bruins go up 3-0 early, Sharks storm all the way back to end up leading 5-4, Bruins score late to tie, and Charlie Mcavoy scores in the OT for a Bruins win.
Game also featured a hat trick by Jumbo Joe Thornton. If there's been a better game this year, I haven't seen it.
Bruins are playing great, but I'm very impressed with the Sharks. They've got a very deep, dangerous team. I could think of worse things than a Bruins/Sharks Finals.

Blues win their 11th in a row by taking out the Leafs in OT 3-2. Kadri got blasted and is out with a concussion. This may change any plans Toronto has for the trade deadline.
