As far as I recall the OT doesn't prophesise the arrival of Jesus (or the NT). So that was all a "surprise". And although the NT does have an end the story with Revelations, there's a big "blank" gap inbetween Jesus and the Revelations.
So...
Isn't it entirely possible that there could be a third book to the Bible due? Couldn't there be some new characters waiting to drop in and bring us all exciting new revelations and to tell us that God has changed his mind on the old rules and here are some new rules?
And given God's penchant for disseminating information by telling only one person on the planet and entrusting them to pass that message onto everyone else on the planet, isn't it entirely possible that this has already happened and we've just ignored God's messenger/tortured them to death? Christians/Organised Christian Religions have treated people that challenge the established views extremely harshly throughout history.
In fact - couldn't this have happened multiple times?
(Double) in fact - couldn't the current crop of Christians actually be significantly out of line with God's current policies and beliefs because of this?

That's sort of what Mormons do with the "Book of Mormon". I don't give in to these No True Scottsmans with Christians, though they might actually have an argument with Mormonism since they kinda added their own book in.

A large part of why the Old Testament is still part of the Christian Bible is for the claim that Jesus was the Messiah whom the OT prophets had said would come. The OT didn't say it would be Jesus however the Messiah is mentioned throughout the OT and he would match up with how he was described. You are incorrect that the OT is around largely because of Jesus. The main reason the OT is included is because it is part of the overall theme of the Bible which is God's sovereignty and the benefits derived from it for his [human] followers. Jesus is a big part of that theme in the NT, but the NT is still just an extension of the overall theme which is why it is funny when theolphobiacs claim they can't see the connections. |

Apart from The Book of Mormon, the holy Quran is another continuation of Abraham's story. The Prophet Muhammad PBUH is the last prophet.

Other than those indoctrinated from birth, and I, for one, managed to get past it. Why do humans constrain themselves to folklore that they are willing to die for? More people have died in the name of 'God' than for any other reason. Why? |
