So I guess Sam and Twitch are the protagonists? I cannot see this being a bit role.

You're correct politicidal, McFarlane wants the first movie to be focused on Sam and Twitch as they investigate unusual crimes on the streets. What McFarlane described is it being something along the lines of "Jaws" in a way - Sam and Twitch are like Brody and Hooper, and Spawn is like the shark. Movie will start out being "grounded" as possible then slowly leading into the fantastic, sequel should focus entirely on Spawn.

Didn't Kevin Smith write a outline/series bible and pilot for a Sam and Twitch tv show for British tv?

They can't defeat whoever Spawn is going after. Will they be there to gawk at Spawn and be the audience?

My guess is that Sam and Twitch think Spawn is behind every single bad thing going on in the streets but later learn that its someone, or something, else and Spawn ends up stopping the threat and saves their lives. I figure it'll be in the last minutes of the movie that we'll see Spawn in his entirety and hear Jamie Foxx's voice, but for the most part he'll be hidden in shadow. Part of me thinks the sequel will be the first movie told from Spawn's perspective and the third will be its own thing.

Haven't heard a peep in a long time, and Smith is very active on the internet.

I am looking forward to it and am hoping it succeeds 'cause it was recently revealed Image Comics are looking to set up their own movie universe with movies like Witchblade, The Darkness, Savage Dragon, Darkchylde, Invincible, Paper Girls, The Wicked + The Divine and others with all the creators working together if 'Spawn' makes 100 million at the Box Office and that is long overdue and it a shame they didn't do it back when they had 'Gen 13', Fathom', and 'Youngblood' too 'cause they would have been unstoppable with the amount of titles they had.

If the movie is focusing on twitch and his partner, then why get Jamie Foxx to play Spawn? That makes no logical sense.

Renner isn't below playing a bit part in one movie to get bigger part in another... Spawn he might have smaller part in hopes of a Sam and Twitch movie later if Spawn does well.

It could go either way with audiences. You might get some that likes it being from their POV. But then you might get people that is upset that it is only a movie in Spawn's world.
