Ant-Man and The Wasp is the just posted the lowest opening for a MCU sequel. Maybe Ant-man just isn't popular and 3 movies within 6 months is just too much.

The film's OW is 33% higher than the first and global OW is equal to its budget. This isn't Solo.

Ultron was the only sequel to open to less.

It has beat its original film And really, all Marvel seems to care is it advances the brand. Do not forget the movie isnt all there is. There are toys. I was eyeballing a set of dolls-$50 for Thor & Lady Sif. Maybe 6 inch?

There might not be a large audience for Ant-Man, honestly.
I haven't seen the film yet so I'm not sure if it's any good but if it's similar in quality of the first film Marvel may have to change directors.

Rogue One was the next installment coming off a 2 Billion dollar grosser . Not saying it won't be profitable, they kept the budget under control. You can't compare Rogue One with Ant Man because that had a $200M+ budget and had a higher BO target. Solo is really a more apt comparison because that film was supposed to have a lower budget until the reshooots caused it to double.

The real comparison you need to do to frame the information to fit your preconceived notion is this. How much did Ant-man and the Wasp make among people aged 23.5 to 27.4 years old, with less than 5% genetic material from the Gold Coast of Australia, that identify as male, and saw the movie on the third viewing of the second day. We take those numbers and compare it to the numbers at the 5:05 viewing in Poughkeepsie among 27 year old female vegans.

Solo is about one the most iconic fictional characters in cinematic history.

Solo is about one the most iconic fictional characters in cinematic history. Solo is a popular character but a lot of people didn't like the idea of a spinoff. And the factors you mentioned going against AMATW, releasing movies too quickly one after the other, franchise fatigue, not a popular character (i.e. nobody wanted a young Solo film) are the same ones used to explain why Solo flopped.

But you are comparing apples & tomatoes. Its like saying a place known for chocolate shakes makes a special chocate shake which sells $$$, but the next year they make a special strawberry shake which doesnt do as well. Or you note Captain America & Thor made less than Iron Man & making a fuss. Cap & Thor were unknown characters to most of the public, just as Ant-Man is. Ant-Man isn't Iron-Man. Ant-Man isn't Spider-Man Ant-Man is more similar to Thor & Cap in the public at large knowing him. Frankly, I was impressed with the amount of ass Wasp kicked in this movie. Cap 2 opened with $30 million more than Cap 1. Thor 2 opened with $20 million more than Thor 1. Did Ant-Man make less? Yes. BOM isnt postulating Marvel fatigue. You are making the leap.

When Cap 2 and Thor 2 came out Marvel wasn't the biggest Franchise in the world. Pressure is on any MCU film to open to 100m+. That's the reality when you are on top. It appears there could be cracks in the Marvel armor or they are putting out product no one asked for. I feel bad for the theater owners that Disney force them to keep movies for 3-4 weeks minimum.
