I hope somebody's old enough to remember this. When I was a kid in the early 90s we recorded the 1958 version of The Blob on Cinemax, and after the movie there was a commercial for upcoming comedy movies that would be playing all month long, I believe there were only 3 featured in the ad, Just One of the Guys, Edward Scissorhands, and a 3rd one. Now, for the record, I've never seen any of these movies, so I'm hoping I'm not getting them all confused for each other, but of the scenes I remember, the way this commercial opened up was with some eerie music and an ominous voice 'get ready for a big blue shower full of surprises', and the scene playing was a guy pulling back the shower curtain, somebody jumps out screaming wearing a monster mask, stabs him in the chest and then it reveals it's a rubber knife, then the music becomes upbeat, the announcer becomes cheerier and says 'and laugh! All month long!', the guy takes his mask off and runs out the door laughing. There was another scene with a guy moving around a room saying 'let's get crazy, let's get drunk, let's get naked', and the next scene was him popping up, naked to the waist anyway, outside at night, drunkenly singing something about a mermaid. At the end of the ad the announcer said 'we're hoping you can make it', and the last scene was some guy saying 'I'm glad that you could make it', and somebody hits him. And it's always bugged me that I was never able to remember the name of it once I was old enough to actually look it up. Does anybody have any idea what this movie was?

Might be "Neighbors" with Belushi and Ackroyd.

The "Let's get crazy, let's get drunk, let's get naked" scene is from Just One of the Guys. The main character's brother (Billy Jayne) says it to a girl he's comically trying to seduce.

movielover That's the movie I found when I did a quote search . Yeah, I have the DVD. It's a really good movie (and Billy Jayne is hilarious in it). Kind of a reverse Tootsie.

Never saw it .. I did the quote search last night but the synopsis sounded wrong somehow so I didn't risk posting that as an answer. PLUS I though that the OP was looking for only the un-named movie #3 Tootsie is a favorite so may look for it.

But I just wanted to help the OP realize that one of her clues is actually from Just One of the Guys. I actually knew you were a fan of Tootsie, which is part of why I threw that in. Lol.

OK .. TOTAL confusion now. Quote is from one of the named movies … so which is the clue from the mystery movie and where is the OP ? Sounds like a mash-up ad …
I have an unexplained urge to watch Tootsie again. Might have been something you said movielover

I have an unexplained urge to watch Tootsie again. Might have been something you said movielover Yeah, I took it as a mash-up ad too. I think the key quote from the OP is this: "Now, for the record, I've never seen any of these movies, so I'm hoping I'm not getting them all confused for each other..." I think that might be why it's a little confusing. Hey, I never tire of watching Tootsie. It's one of my favorites too!

Trying to remember, most of the scenes had younger guys, the one at the end 'I'm glad you could make it' *POW*, I'm pretty sure the guy was older.
A couple other things came to mind the other day, I think one of the characters was saying 'when life throws lemons at you, what do you do?' at the same time there was a scene of a bald guy getting water dripped on his head, and the next scene shown was a guy completely covered in something green who was getting hosed off from somebody in the next room.
The 'mermaid' thing always stuck out to me simply because I have no idea what the hell the guy was in, something white that he just pushed the top open and sat up in, to my 5 year old mind it looked like a bread machine.

novastar6 "to my 5 year old mind it looked like a bread machine. " If I understand this, you saw this ad when you were FIVE and yet can recall the name of two of the movies, exact quotations from at least one of the movies AND what the announcer said and details of scenes from the movies …. ok then.

Not quite, it was one of the few movies we recorded on VHS at the time, and we didn't stop recording until after that ad had played, and a promo for Gremlins 2: the New Batch, and Cinemax presents 'Something Special' about the Blob discussing the original and the 1988 remake. In the early 90s even commercials were entertaining enough to watch, so any time I watched The Blob, I always saw the commercials at the end too, and the tape finally went bad around the time I was 10-11.

Is it Hardbodies (1984)?
