It's interesting how so many fans seem to love Arya Stark and be lukewarm towards Denyrius Stormborne. For me it's the exact opposite...

It's interesting how so many fans seem to love Arya Stark and be lukewarm towards Denyrius Stormborne. For me it's the exact opposite... One reason is that Arya earned what she got. She struggled on the roads catching birds to eat. She cared about even the butcher's boy and thought people were equal. She has humanity in her. She learned fighting first by observing folks in winterfell , then from her teacher Syrio Forel and then from the Hound. She has empathy for the poor and not sympathy like Dany. All these qualities separates Arya from almost everyone in the show.
Dany didn't learn fighting. She was gifted with Targaryen abilities that folks of Valyria had in the old days. She didn't learn to withstand fire and heat or control the dragons. Those are her innate abilities.
That said there are lots of fans of Dany. By coincidence less on this particular board.

I more or less agree with all of that, but I just find Deny more compelling as a character. Her flaws are partly what make her interesting. She's on a commendable mission to free the slaves of the southern lands, but she's also got a hypocritical hunger for power and a penchant for brutality. That dark side gives her depth. If she were completely pure her story would fall flat. I like that hint of darkness in her. Plus, she started out as a victim in every way and slowly came into her own so there's a definite arc playing out with her. I do like Ayra, but her complete lack of flaws make her a bit predictable and uninteresting to me. Kind of like Rey in the new Star Wars movies. Also, she has too much luck on her side. She's in this horrible, unforgiving world, yet she seems to always be lucky enough to find an ally or outsmart everyone around her. She even made Tywin look like a bit of an idiot when she unwillingly infiltrated his inner circle back in season two. Someone her age shouldn't be so competent all of the time. It's hard for me to buy into. I expect I will like her storyline more in the future seasons when she presumably plays a larger role in the main story. Just my opinion though! I respect everyone else's opinion as well.

The Dragons Yeah, the dragons are cool. I find most of the human characters insufferable. I wish the Dire Wolves had played a bigger role as well.

It is amazing how many truly bad characters there are in this series. The only good people are the Starks. And they are mostly all dead. I thought the Giants and the Woolly Mammoths were cool too.

(I'm only in season four) In the books I remember a few mentions....Lord Tyrion, Lady Catelyn and others are attacked by the wild people in the Vale, one of the attackers who is killed is wearing a shadowskin cat. Subsequently Lord Tyrion gets possession of that. Qhorin Halfhand and Jon Snow are also tailed by shadowskin cat as far as I remember
It's just an animal with a size similar to that of tigers in our world but body shaped like mountain lions.

I was thinking about reading the books. Are they pretty good?

I was thinking about reading the books. Are they pretty good? Deepens upon what kind of reader you may be. I found them pretty good. Impatient readers may not like them. The book can go on describing foods and clothes at great length.
