Probably '50s/early '60s. Color. I remember one scene.
The water source for cattle is across a rich cattleman's land. He shuts off the road leaving other ranchers' herds to die of thirst. A group of the ranchers and one Young Hothead ride to the rich man's house to reason with him. The rich rancher walks out and tells them he won't change his mind. As he is going back to his house, he stops at the well and uses a ladle to get a drink from a bucket. He then throws the excess water over his shoulder onto this ground. This sets off the Young Hothead who tries to draw his gun but is restrained by the older men.
Have you seen it?

Do you think or know IF it's a film or a tv-episode? I''m almost positive that it is a theatrical movie.

Do you think or know IF it's a film or a tv-episode? I'm almost positive that it is a theatrical movie. The Big Country (1958)?
Chisum (1970)?
The Ballad of Cable Hogue (1970)?
The Marauders (1955)?
Treasure of Ruby Hills (1955)? < B&W BUT could it have been COLORIZED?
The Last Musketeer (1952)? < Also b&w.

What you describe sounds an awful lot like the aforementioned (in this thread) The Big Country. The movie is a favorite of mine, and water rights are one of its main themes.

I had seen The Big Country decades ago. I never connected it with my recollection of the water scene, nor could I find a clip of the scene on YouTube. However, two experts in the area, RiP, IMDb and telegonus agree that The Big Country is my answer. So, unless anyone else has another definite, for-sure answer, this question has been settled.
Thanks also to others who submitted suggestions.

Mike: if you remember the music or have a musical ear you might want to go to YouTube and check out the video and introductory scene with the rousing Jerome Moross score. If that doesn't bring back big time memories I don't know what else did. Google The Big Country music. It will take you there sooner or later.
