Nostalgia for nostalgia's sake probably is. There are NES & SNES Classic buyers who just wanted their fix, who probably never previously emulated or bothered even to hack add titles. That wave probably peaked.
As for 8-bit & 16-bit gaming & collecting? I think that's here to stay for a while. That guy blames youtube, where I think youtube has only helped - because gamers still need to see how stages & bosses play, where to go, etc.
Connoisseur is the term I thought of years ago now as AVGN & co. began highlighting classic gaming, & playthroughs.
I think the love of the era will be around as long as those of us who grew up with it are alive. 20-30yrs more.

I'll say this about classic gaming and YouTube twothousandonemark I'm someone who's bought NES games for decades now. Before YouTube was big you could go to the store and expect to see NES titles sell for 5 to 10 dollars. I was just at a anime convention and they had games selling for 30 to 50 dollars. That's crazy! eBay used to be good but most people try to sell their old games for more than their worth. Sometimes you'll run into people who are selling those games at a fair price. I think $10 is okay. A lot of the time I think you can go on Nintendo's eShop and get these games for $5 or less but you're getting a physical cartage and it's not like they're making anymore. But most of the time you'll have to go to a yard sale to get those kinds of prices.

I was at Target Tuesday and I saw the original systems (not old) being sold. Idk if there's a special cartridge that has ALL the games or what. Seems pretty confident for the nostalgia to be slowing down.

Probably. I’m of the ‘Nintendo Generation’ and I have moved on. I don’t really like how Nintendo operates as a company and even tho I have fond memories of games like Galaga and Super Mario Bros, I don’t have a real strong desire to relive those games. The world of gaming has evolved past Nintendo for me.

For me NES & SNES are in the same boat as games like chess, Monopoly, & Scrabble.
Yeah, chess might be a checkered wooden board with carved wooden pieces, it's still f'n awesome. NES games are tight, & SNES games are the pinnacle of gaming to that point. PS1 & N64 were essentially concepts for the market having too many trials & errors for my then teenage liking. I played Mario Kart Switch last week & it's so f'n smooth, I've zero sense of speed or fun.
I do believe gaming gens are most adored by the age you first discovered & binged the most hours on. PS4 will alike seem much more charming for today's 11yr olds 15yrs from now when they're shown holographic RTS global arenas.
