House of Wax 2005--the finger cutting scene is horrific in a mundane way...the movie took a few ideas from Tourist Trap.
Let me think of some more unpopular opinions...
Bela Lugosi is better as Dracula in Abbott and Costello than he was in the 1931 film. I also prefer Lon Chaney's Wolfman scenes to any of the ones in the other films--mainly because the music is so good.
The Killer Shrews is an effectively made low budget horror film and the dogs in carpets was a brilliant special effects for the time and budget. Doesn't deserve to be ridiculed.

Halloween 5 and not Halloween 6 should be most to blame for derailing the franchise.

Friday the 13th Part V is not even close to the worst in the series. I have it about the middle on my own ranking but its a perfectly passable Friday film that captures the essence of Jason as well as some of those first sequels.
Movies like Jurassic Park, Jaws, Alien and Predator do qualify as horror movies. They are also adventures, action and sci fi. But movies aren't all exclusive.

Friday the 13th Parts 5 and 8 are underrated and two of the most entertaining entries in the series. They're dumb movies, sure, but they're so much fun. I even enjoy Jason Goes to Hell and Jason X on a certain level, in a "so bad, they're good" guilty pleasure sort of way. Rob Zombie's Halloween movies are trash and an insult to Carpenter's brilliant vision. Zombie's music and other movies are great, but he clearly didn't understand what made Michael Myers such a terrifying character and instead went with a highly generic and clichéd origin story. And his second film just felt like an overly long music video with white trash cardboard cut outs for characters and a childish overuse of profanity. Wes Craven's New Nightmare is overrated, and I can't see why it seems to be everyone's favorite Freddy sequel. Some even say it's their favorite Freddy movie in general, even over the original! It's a good movie, sure, but I'll never understand why it's so overly praised. The 2003 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is overrated. It isn't one of the worst remakes out there, but it missed the point of the original entirely and I HATED the new members of the cannibal family, except for R. Lee Ermey, who was awesome. Will never understand how someone can prefer this style-over-substance remake over the flawless original. The Exorcist is an excellent film, one of the best horror movies ever made, but it does not scare me at all. Never has. My Bloody Valentine 3D was an excellent remake, almost on par with the original, and far better than any of the other recent remakes we've gotten lately. I'd say the same for The Hills Have Eyes, though I still prefer the original. I'll think of more later. I don't really rate Zombie's other movies, though I've yet to see The Devil's Rejects. Agree about his music.

black and white does nothing to differentiate anything... [the bride wore red: how can you tell?]
some horror movies weren't really horror. Alfred Hitchcock: they were spooky and weird but not Stephen king horror. not even close.

I don't think this is so unpopular.... Romero's The Crazies is awful.

Evil Dead II is the weak link the trilogy. It's an overproduced and unnecessary remake of a horror masterpiece and fails to strike the right balance between comedy and horror. The first film is MUCH better. Just my opinion. Fair enough. Evil Dead II is my favorite movie, but I can definitely understand someone preferring the original, which was far scarier, gorier, and had a more focused and consistent tone. But Evil Dead II isn't a remake, it's a sequel. OK. Fair point. It is a sequel, but bears many of the hallmarks of a remake. I know it's widely loved and I've tried to approach it with an open mind on a number of occasions, but (to paraphrase what you said there) always found it to be missing the original film's intensity and nightmarish tone. I actually do enjoy Army of Darkness a lot, but that one is basically just a straight-up comedy with a few brushes of horror, so it doesn't invite much in the way of comparison with the '81 film.

Army of Darkness>The Evil Dead>Evil Dead 2
Diary of the Dead is a worthy sequel and is better than Land
The Dead Next Door and Flesheater are not "the worst zombie/horror movie(s) ever made", not even close. They are both great examples of micro budget regional film making and are enjoyable in their own right
Jason Takes Manhattan is is one of the better F13th sequels
The Howling is the best werewolf movie ever made, not An American Werewolf in London
Near Dark is boring and sucks
John Carpenter's Vampires is one hell of a fun ride and the best vampire/western ever
Carpenter's The Thing is not all that. I just don't understand what so many people see in it that it is their #1 favorite horror. I have seen dozens of people say it is a perfect 10. Not for me
The original The Haunting is a snoozefest except for the breathing door scene. I much prefer The Legen of Hell House

Contrary to critics a lot of Horror movies have sequels that are just as good and sometimes better than the original movies and Horror has the best sequels out of any movie genre.

Polanski's the Ninth Gate is better than Rosemary's Baby.
Seed and Bride of Chucky are enjoyable horror comedy films.
The Fog remake was good.

Seed and Bride of Chucky are enjoyable horror comedy films. I've always been a bit lukewarm on Seed, but Bride is by far and away the best film of the franchise, aside from the original, of course. So much replay value with that one.

Anaconda is better than Deep Blue Sea.
The original Suspiria is not good. Maggots are gross, not scary.
