It never happened to me before that I would walk out on a movie with him. But this was so gloomy AND it made Poo seem retarded, not just silly. didnt you feel that way? Pooh was restarted and Christopher Robin seemed completely soulless. I couldnt get over it. What did you like about it?

I was never into Winnie the pooh anyway. it is hard for adults today to reminisce with all these new takes on our beloved childhood things. I was bawling throughout the end of Paddington and I have not seen padd2 yet because of it. same with the peanuts movie. I refuse to see wont you be my neighbor. tearing up as I am typing this. that is how cool his legacy was. now its Winnie the pooh? shit. fuck off Hollywood. give it a rest. crying isn't entertainment! I can do that for free!

(I admit I have never watched any Pooh stories before, I "only" read the original book). to me they went too deep with the how silly / slow the bear is, and too deep with just how soulless Christopher robin is. in the book he was adorably silly. in the movie he was slow to retarded. it might have been the voice acting too, contributing to that feeling.

How was Hayley Atwell in this??? Wonderful as always with what she was given. She wasn’t given much to do honestly except be the wife of Christopher Robin.

Nora, I havn't seen this yet but really want too. You have made me want to go even more. I am surprised you didn't sit through to the end. Do you feel it may be your own melancholy that was being projected back at you if that is how it made you feel? Until I see the film though, I can't comment on how it plays out and the feel of it. interesting question. not sure thats the reason though. i am not feeling particularly melancholic and i dont mind dark or depressing movies at all. at the same time i was never a hard core Pooh fan, I read it when I was little and liked it, and as an adult I may have revisited it once or twice but its not something I associate with some happy times or bad times it didnt have a that strong of an impact on me. But I like the characters. And I adore the sight of Ewan's face. And I respect the director and liked the trailer. So it had things going for it. I also enjoyed the directors previous film of a similar nature "Finding Neverland". A lot. And that was touchingly sad/melancholic. This was just bland, oddly dark without being thrilling or touching, and most of the characters in it felt ... retarded. for lack of better word. when you see it, and there is a scene where Pooh mistook a shelf for a ladder, thats where i started to get quite impatient with the movie and soon after found myself walking out. let me know what you think once you have seen it.

I had an opportunity to see it this evening, but my buddy wanted to see The Meg, which I enjoyed more than I thought I would and was going to dismiss seeing it.
Christopher Robin hasn't officially started yet in OZ and it is only advance screenings for 2 weeks, perhaps to generate WOM. It is school holidays soon, so that is when they will give it its full plug.
I was surprised when you stated you walked out, and it is not a long film either, around 1hr 45mins and you claimed you saw most of it. Watching it to the end wouldn't have done any harm, at least you could have given a more total and informed opinion then. Films and their presentations and portrayals can affect moods at times. I was just thinking this might have been the case. Until I see the film, I can't really make any insightful opinion. I look forward to hearing what you have to say Nora on films, and this one took me by surprise. i usually last till the end even if i dont like the movie or view it as bad, but this one rubbed me the wrong way somehow and i just couldnt get into it, so the result was me being bored and annoyed with it. since i walked out i wont be writing a review for it of course. yeah it wasnt that long but sometimes you just... cant... anymore. OT> I did see some movies I enjoyed more last few weeks though. I though MEG was ok but I Really Really enjoyed BlackKKlansman. Many of my friends did not.
