It's been a few years since they've done it. Would anyone welcome a return this year or next? What are your thoughts on the gimmick in general and the way it's been used? Do you have any favorite matches or specific events from the chronology?
I personally would love to see it either annually or bi-annually. I would also be okay with them alternating yearly between mens' and women's divisions (King/Queen) for the event. But then, I love wrestling tournaments, especially all in one night as has been done at both the King of the Ring and few other times in WWE history that I can recall: WrestleMania IV, Survivor Series 1998, and maybe one or two that I'm forgetting.
Admittedlty it's been pretty hit-or-miss over the years. For every Bret Hart, there's a Mabel. Prolly like most people, I'm partial to the 1993 and 1994 events because they seemed more important than the years that followed in the grand scheme of WWF (at the time) because they were one of only five big shows per year. I know the '96 show had the Austin 3:16 show, but I didn't enjoy that show as much as the former two. I also enjoyed what Booker T did with his run as King Booker, but I don't remember much about the event at which he won it or even who he won it from. (MVP, or Ken Kennedy, maybe? One of those dudes Vince was pushing circa 2006/07.)
The last event was a network special that was pretty forgettable. But it doesn't have to be. What say you?

I'm not sure how I feel about it anymore. In the 90's it seemed like it was a big deal. I felt like it should be like the Royal Rumble in the way that the winner of KOTR main events SummerSlam for the World title. I believe that happened once with Brock? I wanna say it happened a 2nd time with RVD but I'm not recalling RVD winning KOTR.
The past few winners were kind of jokes. King Booker was alright as it was kind of over the top comedy kind of act. I remember WWE having Sheamus win it once year as a form of punishment by making him wear the stupid outfit when he came to the ring as King Sheamus. Winning KOTR shouldn't be used as a form to punish a wrestler for something backstage related.
One of my favorite winners post 90's era was Edge. I liked it because of the dynamic it created with him and Christian as Christian would always be the one holding/carrying the trophy/crown whatever it was at the time and acting like Edge's accomplishment was his. Christian was such a good performer with stuff like that.

I like King Of The Ring. Big Viscera became King Mabel.

The biggest angle was winners had to wrestle 3 strong matches in one night.
