Deadline reports The Mummy and Encino Man star Brendan Fraser has joined the cast of Titans spin-off Doom Patrol set exclusively for the DC Universe streaming service. Fraser’s version of the character has been officially described as “A former race car driver, Cliff Steele was in a horrific accident that left his body uninhabitable. Cliff’s brain was saved by the mysterious Dr. Caulder and he lives on in a powerful robotic body.” The actor will appear in flashback scenes as Cliff Steele while doing for the voiceover for Robotman in modern day. Riley Shanahan takes on the responsibilities of the character’s physical performance. Fraser will join April Bowlby who reprises the role in the streaming service’s live-action Doom Patrol series, along with Joivan Wade as Cyborg, and Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane. Doom Patrol is a spin-off from Titans, the upcoming series set to premiere on the DC Universe streaming service later this year. The Doom Patrol is a team of unusual superheroes that would work together to stop equally-bizarre threats in the comics. Doom Patrol hails from mega-producer Greg Berlanti and has landed a 13-episode, straight-to-series order at DC Universe. Jeremy Carver is writing the series and exec producing alongside Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Johns. Here’s the official synopsis: Doom Patrol is a reimagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast superheroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane and led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered accidents that gave them superhuman abilities — but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence — and to protect Earth from what they find. Part support group, part superhero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. The drama picks up after the events of Titans— which is also in the works at DC Universe and produced by Berlanti — Doom Patrol will find the reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same. Doom Patrol is expected to debut in 2019. heroichollywood.com/doom-patrol-brendan-fraser-titans/

Wow. That is so weird. Not too long I was wondering whatever happened to Brendan Fraser. Hopefully this is the start of a comeback for him.

Thanks for sharing this hardball. He is an interesting pick and I hope he turns out to be good in the role. It is interesting to also see an actor like him signing up to act on a TV show that is going to be on the DC Online Streaming Service and it makes you wonder what other actors and actresses they will be able to get.

Are you saying Rachel Weisz and John Hannah could be on these shows next? What role would Rachel Weisz play? She's too old to play Batgirl. Catwoman?

Yes! A Mummy reunion. Toss in Arnold Vosloo for good measure. It' not like he's terribly busy at the moment.

I don't think we will see Rachel Weisz as a superhero in any of these shows either 'cause the actress is 48 and they would probably think she is too old. I do think we will get to see Catwoman again very soon once 'Gotham' is over 'cause with 'Birds of Prey' confirming Catwoman is not being used it leaves her open to be used on TV and she will most likely guest appear in Batgirl, Batwoman or Titans..

Some disappointing news for fans who are waiting to see the 'Doom Patrol' show. It appears the show won't be airing now until 2019 and there were sites saying it was going to air this year but there was some kind of mix up and Warner Bros have revealed 'Doom Patrol' won't air until 2019 now. I thought it was kinda weird it was going to air so early since it is going to be a spinoff from 'Titans' and they said before they were going to debut them in 'Titans' before giving them a show. No, 'Doom Patrol' Is Not Being Released in 2018comicbook.com/dc/2018/10/04/doom-patrol-not-premiering-december-2019/

This got me thinking, we are getting a handful of superheroes/comic books on movies, streaming and TV in 2019. Movies: Shazam Wonder Woman Dark Phoenix Avengers 4 Captain Marvel Spider Man Far From Home Hellboy New Mutants Joker Glass I have no idea how many animated superhero films are coming out in 2019. For DC TV we have: Arrow Flash LOT Supergirl Krypton Gotham Titans Swamp Thing Doom Patrol Stargirl Batgirl For Marvel TV we have the Netflix shows, the Runaways, Cloak and Dagger, Agents of Shield and another Marvel show ABC is developing. Disney's streaming service launches next year and rumor has it they'll produce a mini series starring Loki and another one with Scarlet Witch. That's a lot.

Does anyone else want to have someone in Doom Patrol thank Brendan Fraser by saying "Domo arigato Mr Roboto"?

You're welcome hardball and you are right about there being a lot of DC and Marvel movies coming and I am sadly not sure about the 'Batgirl' TV show now but it was announced not long ago there is a 'Secret Six' TV show on the way which surprisingly isn't going to be on the DC Universe and is being developed by CBS. How or if this connects on to any of the other DC TV shows or movies is the question 'cause most of the characters in the original and newer line ups of the 'Secret Six' connect on to other characters and you have Strix in one of the latest line ups who started out in 'Batgirl' as a villain and member of the Court of Owls and then she switched sides and joined the Birds of Prey and later was in the 'Secret Six' and outside of the DC and Marvel movies we have movies of 'Razor', 'Red Sonja', 'Fathom', 'Soulfire', 'Spawn', 'Hellboy', 'Painkiller Jane', 'Faith', 'Sheena: Queen of the Jungle', 'Danger Girl' etc all said to be in development and then we have another DC movie called 'The Kitchen' coming out next year which stars Melissa McCarthy and is technically the second of the new DC movies with a female lead after 'Wonder Woman' new pictures of that were revealed online today.

The Kitchen? Never heard of it. Has anyone? I'm looking at you Deb! I heard of it but I have never read it. It is a DC comic book series but it is one of the Vertigo titles and I am not very familiar with most of those but you might be interesting in reading this synopsis of the film that was just released. And what does the Irish Mafia have to do with superheroes? How long has there been an Irish Mafia? WTF? Does everybody have their own Mafia now? I thought the Mafia died in America in the 40s.
