David Duchovny (born August 7, 1960, New York, U.S.)
"If you're smart, you'll always be humble. You can learn all you want, but there'll always be somebody who's never read a book who'll know twice what you know."
- David Duchovny
01. Actor David Duchovny has Ukrainian, Polish and Scottish roots.
02. Duchovny was an outstanding student at Princeton University and Yale University who eventually dropped out to follow his heart. The title of his senior thesis was 'The Schizophrenic Critique Of Pure Reason In Beckett's Early Novels'. He was accused of going rogue.
03. Duchovny was a poet on the club circuit.
04. Duchovny was the most coveted, in-demand actor on the indie scene of the late 1980s, but it's said everybody felt he was unobtainable. Quentin Tarantino was a major fan. Duchovny's work in Henry Jaglom's 'New Year's Day' (1989) & 'Venice/Venice' (1993), and Bashar Shbib's 'Julia Has Two Lovers' (1991), placed him squarely up top on the underground map.
05. Duchovny portrayed a cross-dressing detective for David Lynch & Mark Frost in the original series of 'Twin Peaks' and drew international praise for his comic skills.
06. Provocateur Michael Tolkin diagnosed a dark sexual side to Duchovny and cast him in his apocalyptic religious satire 'The Rapture' (1991).
07. In 1992, Duchovny's "cold heat" led to him being picked to become the literate figurehead of cable television's most dangerous sexcapades series, the groundbreaking designer franchise 'Red Shoe Diaries'. Legendary eroticist Zalman King was a mindchild behind the series.
08. Around 1993, Duchovny was cast in the series 'The X-Files' created by fantasy whizkid Chris Carter. His character Fox Mulder became one of the most iconic in science-fiction horror since Captain James T. Kirk, working alongside FBI Special Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) to uncover government conspiracies, assist global allies and protect the American public. Duchovny initially pushed for Jennifer Beals to be cast alongside him, an indie icon whom he'd known at Yale, and this caused an on-set friction with Anderson that carried over into the show in the best way possible. Carter was hypnotized by a recent horror film, Jonathan Demme's 'The Silence Of The Lambs' (1991), which had been a major success at the American box-office.
"Chris Carter has been vocal about his admiration for Jonathan Demme’s Oscar-winning film The Silence of the Lambs and the influence it had on The X-Files. “It's not a mistake that Dana Scully has red hair like Clarice Starling in The Silence of the Lambs,” Carter told Smithsonian magazine. In the fourth season episode “Never Again,” Jodie Foster (who won an Oscar in 1992 for her role as Clarice Starling) provided the voice of Betty, a homicidal tattoo (yes, a homicidal tattoo)."

09. Duchovny was repeatedly questioned by the tabloid press over persistent allegations of real-life sex addiction. They claimed he'd been with more beautiful women than anybody in Hollywood since the heydey of superstar Warren Beatty. Duchovny denied there was any truth to these rumours despite continuous rag harassment.
10. Duchovny was cast in 'Californication' in 2007, a dynamite cable television series that gave him his T.J. Hooker and established him alongside William Shatner, Lee Majors and David Hasselhoff as a worldwide multi-idol television icon. His character Hank Moody proved to be a good man crippled by his addiction to sexual activity in a town where life is cheap. Duchovny brought in some of his 'Twin Peaks' associates to work on the show, including co-stars Madchen Amick and Heather Graham.
11. Duchovny was hand-picked to star alongside fellow sex addict Demi Moore in box-office disaster 'The Joneses' (2009).
