I can’t say I'm looking forward to it but I’d like it to do well that Shane Black doesn’t get the blame for whatever’s going on behind the scenes.

Likely nothing more than a Netflix for me, if even that.

Well, I have not seen it yet. But the numbers so far are not promising. Why?
1) The studio hired Shane Black who was one of the original cast members and script doctors with the hope that he can bring the old Predator magic back and make an impact. Going into the weekend, the buzz was not strong and the results were so so. Unless the movie shows staying power in the coming weeks in US and International markets, it looks like an opportunity lost.
2) Unlike the original, there is no star in this movie. Perhaps if they could hire a bankable star, the movie could have done better. Instead they decided to go with an ensemble cast. I guess with Shane Black's name on the movie, the studio assumed that they do not need a star and the movie will sell.
3) The production budget is double the previous Predators movie. The price of production goes up every year, but they should have kept the production budget in check. If the production budget was restrained, we would not have this conversation and these numbers from the first weekend looked pretty good.
4) The movie was released on over four thousand screens with no serious competition on the opening weekend. It was expected to reach number one which it did. However, it looks like it did not hit the forecast numbers.
We will see what happens in coming weeks.

It's a terrible, terrible movie. So, you're saying it's terrible? Yes, the idea I am trying to communicate here is that it was terrible. Although I have to say, I laughed a lot. I mean, to be clear, there are a lot of parts of the movie that you're supposed to laugh at, but I didn't laugh at most of those. I was laughing at things that the film was hoping I would take seriously... like when it tells you that having autism is a superpower.

According to Hollywood Reporter the 20.7 million China weekend was slightly above the 18.1 tracking. www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/predator-china-box-office-debut-1155810I guess at this stage of the game and with this overall underwhelming reception of the movie, every little bit of good news helps. If I am not mistaken, China is the last major territory for Predator 2018 and with this its worldwide theatrical run is over. Well, until the next Predator movie.......
