Bruce Campbell as Mysterio would have been perfect casting! BRILLIANT!

I don't because it reminds me of how much Sony robbed us of in terms of Sam Raimi Spider-Man 4. THIS! That was such a gigantic disappointment!

There were a few other things that bothered me, but honestly, I refused to ever watch it again, so I forgot. You know the thing that did bother me about the amazing Spider-Man movies was that Peter got his web fluid from oscorp, instead of making it himself. I was happy that they did that with MCU Spidey.

Honestly Sony dropping Sam Raimi was not only a stupid decision but it also shows how incompetent they are with the license.
Compare Sam Raimi trilogy to The Amazing Spider-Man 1&2. Sure, Raimi films weren't flawless, but he definitely had a better understanding of the character.
I'm also upset with Marvel Studios essentially having Tony make everything (save the web fluid) for Peter.
All in all I would say that Raimi Spider-Man is still the superior version.

If I recall, Raimi was the one who chose to drop out of SM4, with Maguire and Dunst following immediately afterward. That was what convinced Sony to just reboot the franchise, and I certainly recall that having been quite the controversial decision.

The Amazing Spider-Man was a big step down in quality. They should have shelved it.

I understand that these movies are expensive to make, millions are lost when things don't go well. BUT, there is a difference between a Fantastic 4 (2015) sized flop and an Amazing SpiderMan 2 sized underperformance. Here's the box office for AMS2- Domestic: $202,853,933, Worldwide: $708,982,323. That's NOT a flop. Underperformance in comparison to other super hero movies? Sure. But not a flop.
Quite frankly, I think that Sony got scared and gave up TWICE when it comes to Spiderman. They stupidly gave up on the Raimi series when Spiderman 3 was critically drubbed, and they gave up again when Amazing Spiderman 2 underperformed.
Lets look at the Raimi series: Spiderman- Domestic: $403,706,375 Worldwide: $821,708,551 Spiderman 2- Domestic: $373,585,825, Worldwide: $783,766,341
Spiderman 3- Domestic: $336,530,303, Worldwide: $890,871,626 They made the most money on the third one! Hardly the time to give up! But they did.
Lets look at the Amazing series: AMS- Domestic: $262,030,663, Worldwide: $757,930,663
AMS2- Domestic: $202,853,933, Worldwide: $708,982,323 Clearly ASM2 was their least successful one..
I've always said this, if they just made a sequel that was good the audience would forgive the previous weak installment and move on. They didn't have to jettison the whole franchise... twice!
After Spiderman 3 if they had just worked things out with Raimi and made a good part 4 all things would have been forgiven and they would have had their continuing franchise. After Amazing part 2 if they just made a good part 3 all things would have been forgiven and they would have had their continuing franchise.
But instead they got scared and didn't move on with their plans. Stupid move IMO. You don't improve thing by shutting everything down. You improve things by making better movies! If they had just moved on think how deep we'd be into the Spiderman Sonyverse by now.

I remember feeling interested at a Sinister Six film, though it was uncertain at the time if Spider-Man was going to appear in the spin-off. The trailers for Amazing Spider-Man 2 looked promising and everything seemed to be shaping up for a solid superhero film. The movie premiered overseas in late April where it was initially getting positive reviews and Rotten Tomatoes even had a positive critical consensus written up. Then, it was released in the United States and it ended up getting mixed reviews in which Rotten Tomatoes later re-wrote the critical consensus. I saw the movie months later, and it was an unpleasant experience though Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone made it worth watching.

To be fair, 76% with an average score of 6.2/10 with around 58 reviews was already a sign of doom.
