Albert Andrew Schmid Sergeant, United States Marine Corps: In 1945, Warner Brothers released a movie titled Pride of the Marines, based on a book by Roger Butterfield, starring John Garfield, Eleanor Parker and Dane Clark.
The Notoriously WRONG Movie poster .. Despite appearances, this is NOT an MGM Musical !

Merrill's Marauders (1962)During WW2, a 3000-strong American unit, known as Merrill's Marauders, battles the Japanese forces in Burma. Sgt. Kolowicz .. on the right I met a veteran of that unit. He disliked the name "Merrill's Marauders". From what I've heard from older US special forces people, Merrill was widely disliked by troops under him. Sergeant Stryker enjoys a smoke, albeit briefly.

THE BEST YEARS OF OUR LIVES -- Fredric March wins an Oscar playing 'Sgt. Al Stephenson.' Social mobility in wartime: the banker is a sergeant, the soda jerk an officer.

The Sargeant (1968) starring Rod Steiger. Not a very well known movie. Very odd film. Saw it a long time ago. A US army base in France, as I recall. De Gaulle booted us out in 1968. Maybe worth another viewing.
