I just started watching reruns of this show on Ion TV.
It's an interesting premise, but the execution is faulty. For one thing, the photography is so damned dark that I could hardly see it! I find the acting of the FBI agents to be very weak; this is one show where the villains are more interesting than the heroes. And there is too much dialogue and not enough action.
I'll try to continue watching this show, but I find it sad that such a good idea for a show ended up so poorly.

Horrible show about totally twisted minded people. Watched it at first to see Mandy Patinkin but after a few episodes was so disgusted with the story lines that I never watched it again.
Depressed ? Disgusted with humanity ?
The cases of the F.B.I. Behavioral Analysis Unit (B.A.U.), an elite group of profilers who analyze the nation's most dangerous serial killers and individual heinous crimes in an effort to anticipate their next moves before they strike again.
Skip this one for sure.

Has to be one of the most repetitive of the procedural shows. It's actually difficult to tell one episode from another, the premise and execution is virtually identical in every episode.
I fully expected Patinkin to bail early on from this series; I used to think Joe Mantegna was a halfway decent actor until this--when he's not phoning it in, he's pure ham, but at that he's at least slightly more interesting than the undifferentiated capped and blow-dried mass that makes up the rest of the cast.

Was just looking at the episode synopsis on the CM page and they made me a bit ill... glad that I bailed on it early. Have to wonder about the minds of the writers who think up these killers and situations .

Have to wonder about the minds of the writers who think up these killers and situations . The entire genre's getting wearisome at this point. I don't want a diet of marshmallow fluff, but this whole 'dark/edgy/grim/necro-porn' thing is becoming incredibly boring.

amyghostI find the British police mystery series more to my taste. The murder is over quickly and usually without gratuitous gore. The killings are more often spur of the moment and not maiming and torturing. I avoid that on the news so can't see spending more time with it as "entertainment". Midsomer Murders = outstanding ! I do watch L&0 Criminal Intent reruns … and some SVUs.. which my re-run channel finally cancelled and replaced with The Good Wife.

I definitely appreciate their procedural shows over most of the American ones, as well as the often tediously gruesome 'Nordic' crime dramas--the main upside to some of those are the performances, such as in 'Beck', 'Wallander' and a few others. But the OTT bloodiness/'snuff' aspects are a definite turnoff with most of these shows.
It's not just the crime dramas, either. One of my favorite British series from the last couple of decades was the marvelously black 'House of Cards'. When the US version hit the airwaves, they did exactly what I feared (and expected): ramped up the gratuitous sex and violence, and muddied the basic story with a lot of tedious and unnecessary business. We never appear to learn that sometimes less and leaner (and less gory) is better.

amyghost I am cable-less so only see what PBS sends me .. have seen Wallender .. dark dark Wallender bless his little heart ! Shetland is good but sometimes requires sub-titles when Tosh is speaking .. or just have to hope that she isn't saying anything really important to the plot. ! George Gently …. yes but want to smack Bacchus so badly !
Have never seen House of Cards.. sounds like it's just as well !

Have never seen House of Cards.. sounds like it's just as well ! You'd love the BBC original, but I suspect your reaction to the Kev Spacey version might be similar to mine.
I am cable-free, too; just PBS and MHz; I live for the times when the latter runs the wonderful 'Maigret' series with Bruno Cremer--about as bloodless as a crime drama can possibly be, with minimal action sequences and totally engrossing to watch.
