Just saw this Dutch-made horror film on Netflix. I wasn't really expecting much but this turned out to be surprisingly good.
A group of people from all walks of life take a countryside bus tour in Holland and become stranded near an abandoned windmill with an evil presence.
The Windmill successfully blends supernatural and slasher elements, and is loaded with some unexpected twists and surprises. Where it really scores high points is the strong character development, which is essential to the story. The viewer becomes engrossed in each of the characters' background and makes us care for them and their plights.
It's also well acted and stylishly shot. And it boasts the most monstrous slasher villain since Victor Crowley. Does it have gore? Oh you bet it does! There are indeed some creatively nasty and gruesome killings.
Highly recommended!

I found it to be pretty much average. I saw it years ago, and haven't thought of it much since. I remember it being relatively well put together, having a nice stylish look, and being paced well enough to never be dull.
But I also remember thinking these characters were all cliches, and that the way they all came together and interacted in the scenario was very predictable for this kind of movie. When you get this sort of thing with disparate personalities all smashed together in an intense situation you know joe it will play out from the beginning.
But Noah Taylor is always a welcomed presence, and sort of elevates the proceedings.

I guess I saw this as a refreshing change of pace from many typical American slasher flicks that has stereotypical cardboard characters such as horny teenagers, slutty vamps, goofy stoners, virginal nerds, etc. Whereas in The Windmill these characters were average people but with interesting and unique backgrounds. And I think that added a certain degree of intelligence to the story.

Didn't appear to be a slasher movie, and then I watched it, and it really was. Some cool kills.
