Considering how alt-righty this place can be, good luck with that. I saw it with my girlfriend so I know what she thought. Otherwise, here's a bump for you.
well I would love to know
1. how someone feels about the actress being only half black (and looking quite light overall) - while I think she is a good actress I wish they had cast someone darker or of both black parents descent, to fit her family, to illustrate a point more, to match the author of the book or the illustration on the book cover.
2. is saying "white lives matter too" really seen as so bad and racists by black people? wouldn't saying "black lives matter and white lives matter too" represent the ideal statement, saying 'everybody's life matter"?
3. would someone as outstandingly pretty and "light skinned" really be looked at as "so different" by teenagers in a high school in a big city these days? to the point that they would question why a white guy is with her? I dont want to take anyones experience away, if this is what it is still like in major cities in 2018 for teenagers, then thats horrible of course, But i would love to know someones real comparable experience.
4. do people agree that doing the right thing is the right thing no matter at what cost?
5. is tupac STILL so relevant and seen as important?
6. are black panthers nowadays seen as a regular organization (regular meaning non controversial, not extreme)?
7. wouldnt "acting white" (what I understood she did in the high-school) be just as bad and counterproductive as "acting black"?
To me the movie was interesting to see, but was as someone said above me too heavy handed at times, and felt like it was delivering the message at all costs, to the point of distorting reality. If there WAS a video showing how the cop shot someone who held a hair brush, the cop would certainly be investigated/questioned (by the authorities or the public) more than what was shown in the movie. They made it seem like nobody in the media or public other than group of black people from a questionable neighborhood cared that the cop shot an unarmed teenager.Β
but I liked one of the early scenes in the movie where the dad is teaching the kids how to act if they get pulled over. Hell I am white and I follow those rules. US cops seem a bit too trigger happy for my tastes.Β
