Game of Thrones season 8 is still far away, so in the meanwhile it might be fun and interesting to discuss the seasons up to this point and what people think of them. So without futher ado let's start with season 1. First of all, here's some data for season 1 and a list of the episodes in case you forgot them (I know it's a while ago): Episode | IMDb rating | Rotten Tom avg | Viewer numbers (millions) | Winter Is Coming | 9.0 | 8.5 | 2.22 | The Kingsroad | 8.8 | 7.3 | 2.20 | Lord Snow | 8.7 | 8.8 | 2.44 | Cripples, Bastards and Broken Things | 8.8 | 8.7 | 2.45 | The Wolf and the Lion | 9.1 | 9.6 | 2.58 | A Golden Crown | 9.2 | 8.7 | 2.44 | You Win or You Die | 9.3 | 9.0 | 2.40 | The Pointy End | 9.1 | 9.1 | 2.72 | Baelor | 9.6 | 9.8 | 2.66 | Fire and Blood | 9.5 | 9.1 | 3.04 | AVG | 9.11 | 8.86 | 2.52 |
Season 1 is what started it all and is probably the season that stayed closest to the books. I'll also write some things about season 1, but I'll do that later. What did you think of season 1 in general? What where your favorite moments/episodes/characters/plot twists and what were your least favorite ones? What would you have changed? This is just a general discussion of everything relating to season 1, so say what you want .

In my opinion it is the best season, precisely because it stays so loyal to the first book. It adapts the story very well, and it flows beautifully throughout the ten episodes. For instance, great idea to end episode 1 with Brans fall, and a very nice touch also was intertwining Lady's death with Bran's awakening.
Ned's death was maybe the shows best sequence, and the final scene of Dany surviving the pyre and birthing the dragons was very memorable.
On top of that, the season had a tremendous cast and great production design. There was very clearly a great team working behind the scenes.
There are some minor complaints. The interpretation of Renly's character was irksome and lessening The Hound and Sansa's relationship also a tad annoying. The invention of Roz, just for T&A, and Cersei's first child, just to pander to Lena Heady was pointless. And seemingly innocent changes like killing Marillion and leaving Barristan off the Small Council, would affect the story in the future. Finally due to budget constraints a lot of battles were cut, which is disappointing, but not the season's fault by any stretch.
Overall however a great adaption of book 1, and simply great television in its own right.

Yes, first season also appeals a lot to me. I remember watching it all on the first day itself when I started watching GOT in 2015 for the first time. The show did an exceptional job of building up characters. I liked it that even though so much was happening at KL they still made the wall scenes so exciting. Even Essos was fine in season 1. Definitely one of the best seasons.

The interpretation of Renly's character was irksome How so? They reduce him to a gay stereotype. In the books his sexuality is irrelevant to his character. Okay, perhaps irksome was the wrong word. I will say his interpretation was childish. Although to be fair they actual fix this in season 2, showing him to be the charming, confident and charismatic character he truly is.

I wasn't very happy how easily they had Loras move on from Renly. We of course know from the books that Loras is devastated in the books when Renly dies (i.e. "When the Sun has set, no candle can replace it."). They even cut out this scene from the show: It's a shame.

i LOVED the first season is very memorable we got to meet all the families and foundation for stories to come were placed what i would do different since so many fans already had figured it out wished ned had told someone while he was still alive jon is his sisters child - also would have liked when jon found out his father was arrested and then later dies he went to his commander and asked to take a leave so he can go to his sisters who were being kept by lannisters i wonder if lord commander said yes what would happen , the scene where samuel and rest of night watchers stopped him and started chanting the nights watch vows - rolling eyes no , nothing would have stopped jon from leaving let alone a chant that seemed unrealistic to me and out of character for jon snow.
