Bad/sour/tainted land.
This is a common theme in American horror. The clichéd example being building on an indigenous burial ground.
I can think of numerous US horrors with this theme... But none from elsewhere. Elsewhere someone or something is bad.
Why is the land itself being bad common only to American horror?
Seems to be two main reasons:
Acknowledgement or guilt that the nation is built on stolen land.
A warning that massive consummerism and the American way of life is destroying the natural environment.
Comments anyone?
