THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (1956) 5/5.
An immense American biblical epic that was produced and directed by Cecil B DeMille - and was his last and most successful work. It was written by Aeneas MacKenzie, Jesse L Lasky Junior, Jack Gariss and Fredric M Frank and was based on PRINCE OF EGYPT by Dorothy Clarke Wilson, PILLAR OF FIRE by JH Ingraham, ON EAGLE'S WINGS by AE Southon and the BOOK OF EXODUS.
The film stars Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner, Edward G Robinson, Vincent Price, Anne Baxter, Yvonne De Carlo, Debra Paget, Martha Scott, John Derek, HB Warner, Judith Anderson, Sir Cedric Hardwicke and was narrated by Cecil B DeMille.
It dramatizes the biblical story of Moses, an adopted Egyptian prince who becomes the deliverer of his real brethren, the enslaved Hebrews and thereafter leads them out of Egypt and on to Mount Sinai, where he receives the Ten Commandments from God. It was actually filmed on location in Egypt, Mount Sinai and the Sinai Peninsula.
With a running time of approximately 220 minutes, this towering celluloid achievement isn’t a film that can be seen in a hurry. However, if you’re prepared to put in the time and effort, you’ll be well rewarded. Personally, I’ve always enjoyed a film that includes an overture, an intermission and exit music.

It's amazing how well it holds up in terms of scale and grandeur. Ridley Scott, gfy.

However, I'm still a big Ridley Scott fan.

An epic, in the true sense of the word.

An epic, in the true sense of the word. Always thought Yul Brenner should be forced to wear one of his 'Pharoah' hats wherever he went. The hats were amazing.

I was impressed with all aspects of their costumes - and the rest of the production in general.
