INTERSTELLAR (2014) 5/5.
A magnificent American / British science fiction epic, the likes of which are far too rare in modern cinema. The screenplay is by Jonathan Nolan and Christopher Nolan, based upon an earlier script by Jonathan Nolan. The soundtrack to the film was provided by Hans Zimmer, it was produced by Christopher Nolan, Emma Thomas and Lynda Obst and it was directed by Christopher Nolan.
The film is set in a dystopian future where Humankind is struggling to survive and it follows a group of astronauts who travel through a wormhole in search of a new home for the Human species. It stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Ellen Burstyn, Michael Caine, Matt Damon, John Lithgow, William Devane, Wes Bentley, Bill Irwin, Casey Affleck and David Oyelowo.
This is a rare beast indeed. An intelligent science fiction film that deals with complex and fascinating scientific concepts - and it doesn’t dumb them down. This film is up there with the very best that this genre has to offer - films such as 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN and GATTACA. This is a film for anyone who enjoys truly intelligent and thought-provoking science fiction. Very impressive.

Weird how nobody mentions the robots.

Weird how nobody mentions the robots. Is it?
Why?

I have to admit, this film bored me to tears. Some striking visuals but such a dull, sentimental story. Placing dreary McConaughey front and centre is always a tough hill to climb for me, admittedly.

For me, it's up there with the likes of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, 2010: THE YEAR WE MAKE CONTACT, THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN, CONTACT, and GATTACA.
A quality product full of imagination and intelligence.

Is one of my least favorite films. I thought it would never end. And WTF was Matt Damon doing in this movie?

3/10 - I tried and wanted to like it but I just could not get into it at all. Its well written and well made but I did not care about anything on the screen.

What do you think of the likes of 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN, CONTACT, GATTACA or THE MARTIAN?

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY - 2/10 I tried. I really tried to like this film. It bored the living hell out of me. I didnt care about anything in the film. CONTACT - 5/10 Fully interesting until the ending which felt like a huge letdown. The others I have not seen.

The film 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY has 1 sequel. The book has 3 sequels. You'd probably hate them all.
For me, CONTACT was brilliant, with a perfect, logical ending.

As I said, each to their own.

I read two of the sequels to 2001. 2010 I think was better overall and a more satisfying novel. 2061 was a total waste, probably Clarke simply fulfilling a contract.
Contact had so many problems! Jodie Foster's breathless performance was tiresome. They go to all the trouble of constructing these machines, transport through time and space and take no chances whatsoever. I have to wonder if Sagan wrote that? Or did Hollywood? It's not daring in the least. Good looking film, with some nice effects. Good cast. The Palmer Joss character was annoying and ultimately useless. Big misfire for me.

That's fair enough, after all, everyone has different tastes.
For me, films like 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN, CONTACT and books like 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY and its sequels and RENDEVOUS WITH RAMA and its sequels are what makes it all worth it.
Of course I have many other tastes as well, but I'm just referring to the science fiction genre here.

Probably one of my favorite movies. It’s so damn epic! My favorite thing about it is probably Hans Zimmer’s incredible score!
