Elizabeth Taylor did one with a hilarious little voice. Actors used their appearances on What's my line to promote a new film, or an appearance at a theater or club. This was a hint to their identity since the panel usually knew who was in town.
Just saw Greer Garson on Father Knows best. She played herself and acted out a whole movie for Robert young daughter. It was a lovely piece of material and I wondered if she was having a career slump and used this appearance to get her name and appeal in view.

I've watched hundreds of episodes. Really enjoy it.
Fun fact: "What's My Line?" was produced by Mark Goodson-Bill Todman Productions. When the quiz show scandals broke out in the late-1950s, Mark Goodson hired a private detective to investigate the staff of his shows, to make sure they were on the level. Happily, the detective found that there was no rigging at Goodson-Todman. Mark Goodson clearly considered the legitimacy of his shows to be important, even though his shows had very small prizes.

Jack Benny was somehow able to convince many TV-shy stars to appear on his program. Even Billy Wilder and Rod Serling did guest shots.
One of my favorites is another rare TV appearance from Gary Cooper. He does a western spoof sketch later, but my favorite bit is at 8:00, truly a priceless TV moment.

Goodson plays himself (as does David Susskind) in the TV movie Fear On Trial (1975), dealing with John Henry Faulk's lawsuit against blacklisting groups. Goodson and Susskind had testified on Faulk's behalf.

She was an ideal panel show participant -- bright, attractive, funny, personable. But she was also mentioned as a subversive in RED CHANNELS. Unusual, since she was a registered Republican, a Conservative, and married to a Texas oilman. When Goodson inquired why he could not use her, it turned out that they had confused her with a similarly named performer named 'Ann Lee' who was a Liberal activist. But rather than remove Anna from the blacklist, she was retained because her name was so similar!!!

A similar thing happened to Nancy Reagan. Her professional name was Nancy Davis and apparently there was another actress by that name who was being targeted by the HUAC which was causing all sorts of problems for the soon to be Mrs. Reagan. I think that was how she met Ronald Reagan.
Maybe that's why two SAG AFTRA members cannot have the same name.

William "Hopalong Cassidy" Boyd apparently had some problems in the early '30s when he was mixed up with William "Stage" Boyd (best remembered as Bill Sykes in the early talkie Oliver Twist), who had some DWI and other arrests.

No one has mentioned Murder She Wrote. The show used many actors from Angela Lansbury’s Hollywood Days. June Allison, Van Johnson, Stuart Whitman, Hurd Hatfield, Ruth Roman, Sheree North, Margaret OBRIAN, Marie Windsor, are just a few of the Hollywood stars who appeared on the show. She also used Broadway actors Robert Morse and Len Cariou
