Just saw it. Good but not great, it still gets a solid 7/10. The Sade song at the end fits beautifully also. Its a pity more movies like this don't get made. Your mid budget movies for mature audiences.

Your mid budget movies for mature audiences. Yeah i mean alot of mini series nowadays are what mature middle level movies in the whole 70s were. Nowadays something like Serpico or The Conversation would be a mini series rather than a movie as well.

Dogs are smart. Dogs know the scent of a particular human being. So much so that the flask on the counter was so familiar as the dog was at the door next to the counter. An underrated scene that has to be mentioned.

Highly enjoyed but yeah, you have to calibrate your mind to not expect a huge heist movie.

found it too slow and somewhat boring.
Viola Davis will be nominated for sure though. Completes my 5 predicted leading ladies.
Not a fan of Steve McQueens style, confirmed by Widows. Its not a bad movie by any means, it has great cast, very good writing and interesting visuals. But you have to be really into drama and psychological characters studies to enjoy it I think. Its not a heist movie, as advertised. And it feels oddly political.
7/10 from me.

This will get a watch from via rental for sure.

I may have misunderstood her, maybe she thinks OTHERS think it. Its just crazy to me to hear her say "someone like me" in a slightly negative way. But maybe that is the feedback she has been getting from Hollywood over the years. how f*cked up is our society if thats the case, though.

I found Windows to be "decent." There are some good scenes, characters, and moments and the film reflects social nuance, intelligence, and ambiguity. For instance, the Colin Farrell character (he is excellent here in a supporting role, as he was last year in Roman J. Israel, Esq.) is corrupt, cynical, and full of self-loathing, yet he is also helping the community, even as he receives kickbacks . He is neither a hero nor a villain, and the overall film reflects that ambivalence and moral ambiguity. Moreover, the cast is impressive, and Viola Davis delivers a searing performance. Unfortunately, the movie suffers from three main flaws. First, it tries to weave together too many characters and subplots. The result is that instead of a sustained focus, Widows keeps moving from one character to another and one vignette to another. Thus, while the film features good scenes, characters, and moments, it is not engrossing—it is scattershot. Second, as Nora seemed to allude to earlier, the film obliquely strains for meaning. ( Sicario also suffers from this flaw.) Turning the Viola Davis character into Robin Hood , while logical enough in the context of the narrative, feels clichéd and reflects this strain. So too do some of director Steve McQueen's flourishes. He arguably directed one of the greatest films in history in 12 Years a Slave (2013), but here he sometimes attempts to be too showy, too clever. For instance, in the film's final scene, Alice (Elizabeth Debicki) turns around to look at her erstwhile partner in crime, Veronica (Davis). She has already turned around to look—we see her looking straight out in the direction of Veronica—yet instead of using a simple shot-reverse-shot cut, or a longer composition that captures both of them, McQueen has his camera do a quick 180-degree turn, as if representing a point-of-view shot from Alice's perspective. But again, Alice has already turned around to look and McQueen has showed her looking in an objective closeup, so the turn has already occurred. Why, then, does he move the camera in a pseudo-subjective 180 from one female closeup to another? He seems to be trying to create some grand sensibility that is not there—or else to indulge himself as a director. Third, the plot eventually becomes too implausible. Are a bunch of women really going to attempt—and pull off—an elaborate and violent heist of this order, especially given that they lack criminal histories? And given that the film's mood is serious, aggrieved, and introspective, one cannot dismiss the implausibility as the product of a playful heist movie. Essentially, McQueen attempts to combine a genre film with a profound emotional drama, and the pairing fails to quite fit. But the movie is intriguing—one could do worse.
