I'm not certain if "Atlantis" existed, exactly as Plato described... And it seems doubtful...
However...
I do believe that there were ancient cultures around the world that had far more knowledge, and technology, than what we have been indoctrinated to believe... and that they were the basis for what Plato would call: "Atlantis".
So "Story?", I can't subscribe to that Idea...
A mixing of several different advanced cultures, into one narrative? I think so...

I see it as a staunch possibility, landforms shift all the time as well.

The more I read about it, the more I’m convinced Plato, while (obviously) intending it as an allegory, based it on something. It’s certainly not Donnelly’s Atlantis, which has become the popular conception of the story, but then neither was Plato’s.
Mark Adams, in his excellent Meet Me in Atlantis, comes to the conclusion that the most likely scenario is that Plato heard stories of Tartessos and the Sea Peoples. It seems to make the most sense to me, and Tartessos is for me the likeliest candidate for Atlantis.

I thought this had already been solved years ago? That it was based on the Minoan civilization of ancient Greece. There was a volcanic eruption on the island of Santorini (which was previously known as "Kaphtor" or "Kaptara" or something like that) sometime around 1600BCE or so.
