There may be some hidden messages in the stories. Pretty difficult to have the same interpretation as the author intended given that so much of time has passed. Flood stories were famous in most cultures in ancient days.

I believe that there really was a flood, and that it covered the entire earth. If it only covered part of the earth, why would Noah need an ark? He could have just traveled to a different place.

Well, the flood part... sort of...
During the last ice age, ocean levels were lower, because of the thick glacier ice sheets sitting on continents like North America.
Having been this way for hundreds if not thought thousands of years, people all over the world settled in areas we would call today as "Flood Plains". Generations of people lived in the same place going about their daily lives.
Then when the ice age ended, and the ice melted all that water started flowing across the globe. Spilling over earthen dams, or just destroying them entirely. River levels rose, and coast lines shrank.
To the world, all of these people were suddenly dealing with a "great flood", of which no one had ever seen before. Entire communities were underwater, and masses of people who could not get to higher ground were dead.
Archaeologists have discovered numerous underwater sites all over the world that supports this theory.
I heard a theory that the Ice Age may have come to an end quicker than it should have. Descriptions of fire & smoke have been mentioned with this theory. Possibly due to a meteor shower, or an increase of volcanic activity. This could have warmed up the Earth, and melted the glacier ice rather quickly... Causing the rapid flooding.
Many people, now think, Atlantis was destroyed at the end of the last ice age. The story tells of a lot of fire and smoke, and then it sank... Continents just don't sink! But if you put it in perspective with the ending of the last ice age, it fits...
I suspect the rain for 40 days and 40 nights, was a result of the atmosphere was being stirred up by all the flowing water, and possibly dust and debris in the air from the theory of some cataclysm ending the ice age.
In any case... The survivors had never heard of such things happening to them, and they couldn't understand why it did happen... So they turned to religion for answers. They concluded that the world must have become evil, and so God destroyed it...
As for Noah?
Many scientists believe it is impossible to gather 2 or more of every animal (Not including sea life and birds) on Earth and place them on a Boat...
I have heard there are many "Noah" stories that were written, and that were merged into one official telling that we now know of. Not every story called the man Noah.
If you take the story literally, of the world being completely covered with water, that would mean there would be so much extra water, that even Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world would have to be underwater. Where did all this water come from? Where did it go to? I just can't accept that.
But at a time, when people were mainly isolated from each other and didn't travel more than just a couple of miles from their home, one should ask themselves... What was the "World" to these people. The Earth? or was it just the town that they lived their whole lives in?
Some claim that the Ark, sits at the top of Mt. Ararat. Even with some questionable evidence to back up this claim up, I find it hard to believe. (I don't believe in the flooding of the Earth).
Interestingly, some scientists have found fossilized sea life covering the Pyramids in Egypt. If you look at a map today, one MUST think to themselves that is impossible. But...
Some people are claiming the pyramids were built at the end of the last ice age, and not several thousand years later...
So, If there was some kind of meter shower, at the end of the last ice age, perhaps there was an asteroid collision with the Earth too, and it created a Tidal Wave. If it was high enough, and went far enough inland, that could explain the Pyramids, and how a boat came to rest on the side of a mountain...
Yeah, I know... Don't get to upset here, it's just a far out theory...
Now, I'm not saying saying that there was not a Noah, and there was not a boat...
But, I think many of these religious stories are highly exaggerated.
Best case scenario... Noah built a boat, and put his own livestock on board, and rode out the massive LOCAL flooding...
Anyway, that is just my 2 cents worth of an opinion.

And by the evidence on Mount Ararat, I guess you mean the intrusive volcanic dykes that biblical literalists pretend are fossils of Noah's Ark 😏

Some people who have climbed Mount Ararat, have reported that they have seen a massive, man-made hollow wooden structure with a peaked roof, buried under the ice and snow on the side of the mountain, towards the top. Occasionally it becomes visible when the climate becomes unusually warm. More recent claims indicate that it now sits in two pieces. About 30 years ago, the TV Show "Unsolved Mysteries", did a story on Noah's Ark. They showed a photograph, that was taken on the mountain, which shows an object from a far off distance. The object, looks like a large wooden rectangular like structure, with a peaked roof... I found a modified version of that photo, online, which appears to be used for illustration purposes... But The main part of the photo appears to me to be unaltered.
The quality of the image is not very good, which makes the claim questionable... But other people have claimed to have gone up to the object, and says it is a man-made hollow wooden structure with a peaked roof... If this object is really the Ark... Then, I don't understand how it could get up onto the side of a mountain... There is also a place near the base of the mountain, or not to far from the mountain, that is also supposed to be the resting place of the Ark. Who really knows what that is... I guess there can only be one finally resting place. So I don't know which one to believe, if either one is the genuine Ark. But I would like to know what that object is, that is on the side of the mountain, if it is not the Ark.

There is one thing I would have added to that story:
The night before the heavens opened, while all humanity were in a deep sleep, several angels of the LORD would guide all the animals not on the ark to the Garden of Eden, which would then waft upward to Heaven. When the people awoke to find their beasts gone, they would think that Noah had stolen them and storm the then dry-docked ark. Of course, then the torrents of rain fell, destroying all human life, but the animals were safe. After all, why should innocent creatures perish just because humans were wicked?

About all that ocean sea life...
Wouldn't flooding the entire planet with so much ( enough to cover up Mount Everest ) fresh water ( rain )... "Dilute" the oceans of their salt content, and kill any sea life that needs to be in Salt Water to live?... Or... am I wrong in thinking that sea life needs salt water to stay alive?
I thought sharks needed to be in salt water to live... Maybe they just need it to be able to swim...
Did anyone ever indicate that it rained salt water?

I don't take the 6:00 pm news literally, and I feel sorry for anyone who does. Of course there are some facts on the news. Earthquakes, floods, and other bad weather on modern news are facts and very relevant to most people's lives. Other facts are on the news, but not as relevant as many people think. Many of them are deliberate distractions. A few things on the news are not true, some are corrected later and some are not.
Things were different before radio, television and newspapers. Detailed facts were considerably less dependable (if you can imagine) without any network of official fact gatherers. Most people understood that though. They knew all they had were stories. They knew details were often made up to fill in gaps and inconsistencies. Sacred writings were perhaps held to a higher standard, but even there the details were not taken as people today take what they see on the news.
That said, there are some curious interpretations of the Biblical flood.
One is that the Strait of Gibraltar was originally sealed and the Mediterranean Sea bed was dry and populated. Then a breech occurred forming the Strait of Gibraltar that began filling the the area with the Mediterranean Sea. The progress was slow and impressed many people with the reality of a tragedy.
Another is that the ark was capable of space travel and the Earth as we know it was populated by an ark from another planet. It is very ridiculous of course, but people who want to believe in infinite regression find it convenient.

Well, I don't know if the object on the side of Mount Ararat, has been pinpointed to an exact spot yet... Most of the time it is covered up with snow... But the mound is about 17 miles to the south of Mount Ararat, and the location is well known. I am sure, as you say, those coordinates can be found with a Google search, or a Google Earth search. As I said, I have no idea which one is supposed to be the real ark... If either of them is genuine. Oddly, it looks like the top, upper decks, of the boat is on the side of the mountain, and the hull bottom came to rest at the mound. Not sure how that could happen. EDIT...OK, I dug out my "Unsolved Mysteries" DVD and watched the episode again, to get this information. Robert Stack noted: The object on the mountain " lies on the NorthEast side of Mount Ararat, under a permanent 23 square mile glacier." That's all I know about it where it is. One more update...Here is a link to information about the searches and possible locations of the Ark: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Searches_for_Noah%27s_ArkAnd the "Ararat Anomaly"... (The page says "NorthWest" corner): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ararat_anomaly
