I haven't seen Hereditary yet, but I've read that Toni Collette gave a really strong performance in that film and was one of the highlights, much like I think Jamie Lee Curtis definitely gave one of her strongest performance in Halloween. Apparently, there has been a bit of Oscar buzz for both Collette and Curtis in regards to their performances. For those who have seen both films, in terms of best horror film performance, who was better, which did you enjoy more? You can rate and judge it however you like.

Collette does much more heavy lifting in her role. I'm not sure it's Oscar worthy, but there's more substance there than in Curtis' (which, for the record, I enjoyed too).

I haven't heard any Oscar buzz for Jamie Lee. That'd be a weird nomination. She was good but not Oscar worthy.
Collette was, though. Pretty amazing performance.

I haven't yet seen Hereditary, but Toni Collette seems to have made a legitimate impression and could have a real shot at awards.
People have been throwing a lot of love Jamie Lee Curtis' way, but nobody seems to be seriously considering her for awards season.

Curtis was great, but Collette for me was on another level. Probably the best female performance I saw this year

Toni is guaranteed an Oscar nomination, Jamie not. This is not to say Jamie was not good. She was. Perhaps even great. But Toni was simply otherworldly. Divine. The whole movie is like that buts she really. showcases her emotional strength and intelligence as a person, to be able to pull this off. If you see it, you will know. the nuances of her performance, the urgency of some deliveries, its incredible. Halloween was a fun well made movie with a strong Jamie in it. Hereditary is a cinematic masterpiece that is ALREADY making waves amongst reviewers and especially filmmakers as an example of something extraordinary. Its not a perfect ten but I think I gave it 97% or something like that. pretty damn near to the perfect score.

Both top-notch actresses. Collette's performance was riveting. I believe that had as much to do with the material than with her ability. In the same role, I think Jamie could have done the same. They were just two different films.
If Collette doesn't get at least a nomination, I'm calling shenanigans on the whole thing.

He was amazing and deserves a nod too for support, even though he was technically male lead. i also think Alex is very deserving and in my book should get the nom for sure. however we shall see what the competition form will be throughout December, and if he will be placed into supporting or a lead. i thought that was a spectacular performance, easily matching or even outperforming Timotee Chalamet in Call me by your name last year and Timotee this year in Beautiful Boy. But sadly Alex is not getting all the oscar buzz he deserves. not yet anyway. But it seems like the female lead category is already decided, the nominations I mean. and it for sure includes Toni.

Toni Collette was great in Hereditary. But the best female performance I've seen this year was Joanna Kulig in 'Cold War'. She was brilliant.
Charlize Theron was pretty great in 'Tully' too.

Charlize Theron was pretty great in 'Tully' too. yes Theron was good at Tully, but I quite sure she will not make it into the nominees list. Melissa McCarthy and Toni Collete and Lady Gaga and Olivia Colman will get nominated "for sure", 1 spot is up, and I think Viola Davis will be the 5th. A lot of people say Glen Close may also end up with a nomination but I have not see the Wife yet so dont know... Roma can also get in but I think its too low profile.

I wasn't impressed by Curtis in Halloween (2018). Toni Colette on the other hand, I thought she was amazing.
