We might have to agree on who is major. I don't think characters like Bronn, Gendry, The Hound or Tormund qualify. Of the real top ones, I think Daenerys will bite it first. Maybe Theon, although I don't see him as one either, nor Jorah or Varys.
So it's Daenerys.

That being said, I can see Jaime to be one the first ones to die.

Varys is very much the same in the show. His purpose was and remains a Targaryen restoration without much else, so he remains in that shadow. Even Littlefinger failed to be a major character in that he became exclusively tied to Sansa. Jaime, on the other hand, is a main character, just like Cersei, Tyrion, Jon, Sansa or Arya. He has been portrayed with a more complex personality and motives that could be variable or conflicted. He won't die early, though. I expect to see him in the final episode.

I thought you said that Varys and Jorah were major characters. Well there was that rumor that never made any sense to me, that Arya will be disguised as Jaime when she kills Cersei in the final episode.

I know they've gone down far with Arya but I doubt it. It's the part of wearing Jaime's face that pisses me off. Cersei is on Arya's kill list and I wouldn't be surprised if Arya ends killing her. But if she is using Jaime's face that almost implies that Arya will kill Jaime too and that doesn't make any sense considering that they never interacted for Arya to develop a grudge against him.

Yes, it would take it one notch even further down. As Theon said, "it can always be worse"

But Jaime is headed north and the people there are not going to tolerate his presence no matter how much he wants to help them.

Well Tyrion is up there and so is Brienne so they might alleviate some of their worries. I think there will be an encounter between Jaime and Bran.

That's the strongest sign.
