Do you recall if there was a specific song back when that turned you onto a band or artist ...made you want to investigate...blew you away ...or just teased your palate? For example STARMAN kicked me into Mr.Bowie, PRiMARY got me CURED first seen on attached Top Of The Pops clip, , 0NE OF THESE DAYS got me tickled PiNK, an old schoolmate played that me when we caught up after years, UNDERTOW was my first WARPAiπT (given to me by cyberpal Thee Morty Toad R.I.P. for those who recall the old boards) and DEARG D00M was my first ride on my beloved H0RSLiPS. What's yours? (Mine's a pint.)

Can't say I had a specific song for most favorites. Most of them I discovered through albums and they slowly over time became favorites.
A few bands I quite like (not necessarily favorites) that I did "discover" initially via a single song:
Sonic Youth - "Teen Age Riot" Stereolab - "Super Electric" The New Pornographers - "All For Swinging You Around" Girls - "Hellhole Ratrace" Alvvays - "Archie, Marry Me" Chromatics - "Saturday"

Texas Flood – Stevie Ray Vaughan
I heard it while driving home one night and counted the tracks until the DJ came on to say what he'd just played. I pulled off the road to make sure I got it. Many years later, I saw a Clapton Youtube in which he says he says he did the same thing.

A live performance of "Gonna Take A Lot Of River" is what made me the fan that I've been for over a year and a half now of my late beautiful precious Steve Sanders of the Oak Ridge Boys.
God bless you and those who have loved him longer than me always!!!
Holly
P.S. Sadly the clip of that performance is no longer at You Tube and I hate it! I miss seeing that smile of his SO much!!!

Can't say I had a specific song for most favorites. Most of them I discovered through albums and they slowly over time became favorites. I've had a similar experience. I used to discover new artists via YouTube compilation videos/playlists that featured one song per band. Lately it seems full album videos/playlists have become the norm.

Most of my favorite bands I discovered pre- YouTube, they weren't bands that would get regular radio play (not that I listened to the radio anyway). I read positive comparisons to other bands about them and blind-buy the album a lot of the time. I'd slowly absorb the album, a single song might stand out occasionally.

I can remember the instance I first heard a song from The Jezabels, who would now probably be my favourite Australian band. One day when I was flicking between stations in the car, trying to find something actually worth listening to on the radio, I happened upon this song only by chance and was instantly hooked. I have loved the band ever since, and own their three albums (Prisoner from 2011, The Brink from 2014, and Synthia from 2016), plus two of their EPs (Dark Storm and She's So Hard from 2009).

This track started me down a long road, and I don't regret a single step so far.
