I liked the slow-burn approach that the 2014 movie did but I get why others wouldn't.

I don't mind films with the slow burn approach either but what I don't like is when they cut away from the action like they did in the first one that is completely unacceptable for a godzilla film.

Was the 2014 movie really good? I never saw it, but the ads for this one looked interesting, so I might get around to watching the first one in this series one day.

After watching the trailer I have to wonder, do the monsters in this movie cause the skies to go dark? Why are there no scenes of monsters in daylight?

Upon repeat viewings it's just okay for me now. The 3rd act is amazing and Bryan Cranston is very good when he's onscreen. But Aaron Taylor Johnson is a bore. Hollywood, stop forcing this guy on us like we're Isla Fisher.

It is expensive to do computer animation with daytime light or rather they are cheapskates about it.
That's a problem I had with the Lost World 1997. The t-rex in San Diego in daytime would have been way cooler.

He sure doesn't, nor does he hold back showing Godzilla in general. I chuckled at the opening scene because they throw him right out there, like "See? We listened".

And speaking of listening, we also get to hear something right off the bat that we didn't hear in the 2014 kickoff, before we even see anything (except the Warner Brothers and Legendary logos, of course).
Yes, they definitely listened, and now we get to enjoy listening.
