Yeah, 100% would be better.

The reason for the 80% width is to make room for things in the margins, such as the Back to Top/Bottom button on the lower right. I think it also makes things a little easier to read. Have you ever wondered by newspaper articles are narrowly columned?

Have you ever wondered by newspaper articles are narrowly columned? Sorry but bad reason, the back to top button is not reliant on the page - its "fixed" to the page so not reliant on the page width or anything When you are on an HD screen (or any kinda screen really) and 20% of the page is just grey its annoying Gone are the days of accounting for multiple screen resolutions - set it at 95% and it will look great, thankfully the mobile version is a real mobile version But if you are like me on a tablet who views websites in full version then the 20% margin is really horrible

I've made a 100% width theme just for you fritzelly.

IMDb is based on (at a rough guess 980px which was pretty common many moons ago) most people have their browser at about 1280px full screen where their screen is that width, usually less than that even with big screens Thought the link in the post was to a 100% width - not lol
95% - is a fine number

Why can't we try one of these two choices...
1.) Create two almost identical themes.
A.) Set one at 80% for those of us that don't use tablets, or use different screen resolutions... B.) Set one at 95%.
We can try each one, see which one looks better, and then each of us can stick with the one we like.
2.) While I do think there is wasted space with the 80% setting. I think 95% might be too much for some of us...
Why don't we try setting the forum at 90% for everyone for a while, and then see how that goes.
Maybe then there can be a poll... to see if we should keep it at 90%... put it back to 85% or even 80%... or increase it to 95%...
Does this sound fair?

Look at Bootstrap - one of the most popular CSS frameworks for websites - pretty much zero wasted space (they have about give or take 10% margins depending on the browser width) 90% website width should be the minimum, most modern website expand up to about 1000px and then stop - I've been doing website design for 10 years so I know nothing

I plan on giving this site a facelift someday as opposed to using the default blue theme. Try out the fritzelly theme (which is the default at 100%) and see if you can tell why I opted for 80%. Personally, I don't live having to move my head side to side to read long lines, but that's just me. If enough people want the board to be wider, I'll set it to 90% width until I get around to making a more attractive default theme and I suppose those who don't like it can just resize their windows until then. In the meantime, find me a seamless background texture to replace the flat gray and maybe that will add some depth and be less annoying.

I thought I would give the fritzelly theme a try, to see what you guys are doing and talking about...
I like the stucco background... KEEP IT.
But at 95%, I don't like those buttons on the bottom right corner being on top edge of the board as I scroll. I find it distracting. It was better when they were completely in the margin. But there is too much margin at 80%. I think somewhere in the 88-91% range might work better.

That's an issue with many a website, worse are the ones where they have them on the side You can hide those buttons by clicking the collapse button - would never use them myself.

There is no collapse button for the dark grey scrolling down/up arrow.

There is no collapse button for the dark grey scrolling down/up arrow. Nope, I agree it's annoying but all too common place these days - but its hardly distracting. I'd rather have a full width website and a tiny little button I barely notice than a tiny website with big margins and buttons I still don't use or notice But maybe there is a way to disable it that Admin knows

ROFL! 87% seems to be the sweet spot unless I remove the down/up arrow, but I can't do that because too many people were complaining about having to scroll because of all the boards on the home page and I can't remove very many more of them, because too many people want more, not less, boards on the home page and fritzelly isn't going to be happy with 87%... You goofballs. I'm glad you like the stucco, though. I do too. I think I'll put it on the default theme.

It's perfect as it is now But as they say
“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”
