Sooners have given a solid effort in the 2nd half, but Bama is too much for them to handle.

Bama gets the win, brilliant outing from Tua and the Bama offense, and Bama will face Clemson for the 4th consecutive year in the playoffs.
Oklahoma has now lost in the semifinals 3 times in 4 years, and have allowed over 500 yards of offense in each one of those games!!!! They have to bolster their defense if they want to win a title, theyβve had 2 outstanding QBβs but their defense prevents them from winning a title.

They have to bolster their defense if they want to win a title, theyβve had 2 outstanding QBβs but their defense prevents them from winning a title. I think that angle, of schools building off of playoff performance (usually for the worse) for next year, is a good baked in positive from this CFP thing. NCAA schools building programs for playoff success is a thing I like. Used to be bowl appearances were the primary goal & let the chips land where they may.

Well, boys: I'll own my longstanding support of this year's Irish team and take all your best shit talk with a smile. Because everything said in this thread is dead-on.
ND flat out cannot compete with elite teams and hasn't been able to for the past twenty-five years. I wasn't even mad or sad or upset at the result. Clemson was clearly the better team and deserved to win, but look at Oklahoma -- also outclassed and outgunned, yet they fought to the bitter end like a playoff caliber team should. ND was in meltdown mode by the middle of the second quarter. Same as it ever was.
Until and unless the school's administration makes the appropriate changes (i.e., never) it's hard for me to argue they should be considered seriously for the CFP going forward. Give the spot to another school who might do something with it and give us all a decent game. Innit?
ETA: and, for clarification, I still think the committee should've included ND this year. But going forward? Nah, barring exceptional circumstances.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish get votes every year based on their influential alumni. The truth is, Notre Dame hasn't been good in football in decades. Its a shame other deserving teams get left out because the Notre Dame alumni are so delusional.
