I'm going by IMDb dates, runtimes (minimum 60 minutes) and black and white listings (no colour listed at all) so feel free to point out any discrepancies. I hope I listed most/all of the well known and/or important ones. Feel free to suggest other titles.
Vote on your fave black and white '1990 to now' movies here.

Is it true that black/white is no cheaper to film than color these days?

Is it true that black/white is no cheaper to film than color these days? If you're shooting digitally I'd think it's the same cost.

The Man Who Wasn't There (2001) by the Coen Brothers Tetro (2009) Francis Ford Coppola Road Movie (1973) Joseph Strick Man Who Wasn't There is on the other thread for more modern films I linked to in my opening (edited) post.
IMDb lists both BaW and colour for Tetro so I didn't include it. Road Movie never made it on my radar but IMDb lists it as ONLY colour.
A lot of these movies I haven't seen in a long time, if at all, so I'm not sure what or how much colour is used. There were a few movies I thought were BaW but which IMDb listed 'color' for so I left them out.

I voted for: Paper Moon Manhattan Lenny Raging Bull The Last Picture Show(If I had 2 more votes, I would have also voted for Stardust Memories and The Elephant Man.) I also recommend: Rumble FishI haven't seen Rumble Fish in a long time. IMDb lists colour for it. If I remember correctly it's just the fish colourized? Regardless, I decided it'd be a slippery slope deciding what the cut off for a BaW film would be, especially for titles I've never seen, so I chose a no colour (as per IMDb) policy.

Yes, it's all B&W except for the fish, which are only seen briefly in the movie. Probably a good thing you left it out, or else I would've needed more votes!

I voted for The Ascent , Voskhozhdenie (1977) Larisa Shepitko and others... A spellbinding B&W from the ATG production company, Directed by Kazuo Kuroki Ryoma ansatsu The Assassination of Ryoma, (1974) is masterly shot in grainy 35 mm, mirroring old black and white photos, the film portrays the historical figure, the legendary revolutionary Ryoma Sakamoto (1836-1867). His progressive ideas were integral in overthrowing the Tokugawa Shogunate, which would lead Japan into the modern era. Even though it is black and white I would describe the stunning film as a psychedelic jidai-geki .. Highly Recommended !! Shinobugawa , The Long Darkness (1972) Kei Kumai Beautifully composed, ponderous modern love story set in Tokyo's decaying lumberyards and travelling to the inhospitable frozen landscapes of northern Japan.

Three films listed and all ineligible. I have deleted my post in shame and offer my apologies. The Coen flick too recent (because I did not read your post carefully). "Tetro" I now remember does burst into color briefly towards the end (and is also too recent!). "Road Movie" I have in my DVD collection (and recommend). I have watched it twice yet still had a distinct memory that it was B & W. Just checked again and it is in (gritty and grainy) color. Old men should not post hastily late at night! Sorry to have wasted your time. I will now turn to your thread on more recent movies and give it my complete (early morning) attention.

I hadn't edited yet linking to the other thread containing TMWWT.
As for remembering a film with BaW that wasn't there, as I was searching the movies (listing BaW movies with the 'most votes descending'), I didn't see Reservoir Dogs which was surprising. I was sure it would have plenty of votes. Once I got down to movies with 50,000 votes I just had to check. And Reservoir Dogs is NOT a BaW film! I've seen it more than once (not recently) and watched individual scenes here and there yet in my head I remembered it as a black and white film. Old age memory for real.

I know what your saying. Just delete, take a deep breath, have a sip of your favorite beverage, and continue posting. Everything on the Internet tends to fade away pretty quickly.

The Last Picture Show (71) Paper Moon (73) Lenny (74) Young Frankenstein (74) Manhattan (79) Did you like any of the 80s films or do you stop at 1979? I've seen only 5 of the 80s films listed and they are all good but those 70s films are great.
