Tom Cruise (due to his unbeatable filmography).
Best: Jerry Maguire (1996) (within my Top 29 movies in general)
Worst: Legend (1985) (it's the only movie he starred in that i could not finish due to boredom. the only other movie of his i could not finish that he appeared in... Rock of Ages)
p.s. i have seen his entire filmography besides... Taps/Losin' It/Endless Love.
side note: the only movies of Cruise that i find below average or failure are... Legend/Rock of Ages/Lions for Lambs.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here are his movies that are amongst my favorite movies in general...
1.Jerry Maguire (1996) - 9/10 2.The Color of Money (1986) - 8/10 3.Interview With The Vampire (1994) (the #1 vampire/horror themed movie hands down) 4.Mission Impossible (1996) - 7.5-8/10 -.Mission Impossible III (2006) -.Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015) -.Risky Business (1983) -.War of the Worlds (2005) 9.Rain Man (1988) 10.Top Gun (1986) - 7-7.5/10 11.Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011) - 7/10 --.Edge of Tomorrow (2014) 13.Valkyrie (2008) - 6.5-7/10
@ OP ; i would say Days of Thunder (1990) (6-6.5/10) would be my 14th spot. so the best of the rest for me.

Brad Pitt
Best: Se7en with Fight Club being a VERY close 2nd. Worst: Burn After Reading is just so dumb to me and I couldn't stand that movie and it's the first time I felt like Brad was bad in a movie.

Hugh Jackman --
I do like him for his talent and versatility, both in film and the theatre.
Best Performance(s) - Les Miserables/Logan/The Fountain/Prisoners/The Prestige... and on Broadway - A Steady Rain with Daniel Craig/The Boy From Oz
Worst Performance(s) - in some of his early movies when he seemed ill at ease portraying the characters ( Someone Like You/Scoop, even if I liked the movie/Deception)

Viggo Mortensen, some of his best movies (in no particular order)
LOTR trilogy
A History of Violence
The Indian Runner
Eastern Promises
Appaloosa
The Road GI Jane
Some of his worst: Daylight; Psycho (its not that the movie was so bad, its more that it was so unnecessary. It was so faithful to the original, just changing a few things -like for instance the amount of money that Marion Crane stole. The changes were probably to update it. But the original is a classic and did not need to be redone); Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre; Prison.

Humphrey Bogart. It's tough to pick out a Best from Bogie. Probably "The Maltese Falcon" (1941). That was the one that made me love him. He is also at the top of his game in "To Have and Have Not" (1946), "Key Largo" (1949), and "The Harder They Fall (1956) - and there are so many great performances that I left off that short list.
Worst: Bogart labored as a second and third tier contract player for Warner for many years. He had to do whatever movie he was assigned. There are many duds that are elevated simply by him being in them. In the cheapie horror "The Return of Doctor X" (1939). Bogart plays a corpse who is brought back to life by the Mad Scientist. Pretty dreadful.

The Return of Doctor X is an utterly atrocious movie, mikef6 , but it can be amusing if you're in the right mood for that sort of shlock. Preferably after having a few Ed Wood pictures under your belt! My favorite actor is Jimmy Stewart. Nigh-impossible for me to pick "the best," but--before I think of something else and change it--I'll go with It's a Wonderful Life. I still find it one of the most absolutely amazing and life-affirming movies ever made. The worst? Uh... Probably The Cheyenne Social Club, alongside his old friend (and political sparring partner) Henry Fonda, which I've never seen but about which I have read enough to know that I've no particular desire to see it! But is that quite fair? I mean, is it fairer to choose something bad from the period when he was a star? It's easy enough to pick an actor's worst picture from a date "late, late, in the evening."

I seem to be alone, or close enough, in actually liking The Return Of Dr. X. A go figure, I guess. Vincent Sherman created a spooky atmosphere, with the New York streets and brownstones feeling Gothic and forbidding. The plot is silly and poorly developed, but then it's a B horror. I take it for what it is. The pacing is good, and I like the contrast between the safe places full of normal people, dangerous places full of weirdos and menace. In its modest way the movie builds up a nice head of steam.

Al Pacino. His best: The Godfather Part II (the first might be a better movie, but Pacino really shined in the second one, imo). His worst: a couple of candidates, I'll go with Gigli for now.

It is for The Man not any perceived faults with the film, such as silly, poorly developed plot.

And I am always in the right mood to see a movie with Humphrey Bogart. Any movie. As I said in my answer to telegonus, I am a Bogie completest and will enjoy any film just for The Man's presence. I can imagine that the same thing is true for James Stewart. He always elevates any film.

Yes, I suppose it's that way with me and Stewart (or me and Bogie, or me and Cary Grant, or William Powell, or... Heck, there are a lot of actors I like. And you haven't even got me started on actresses ). By the way, telegonus, I'm no fan of Return, but as I said, I think it can be great fun if you're in the mood. I agree with you about the atmosphere-building. Even so, you must admit that Bogart is wildly miscast, even at that point in his career.

Return Of Dr. X is actually a nicely crafted little horror, similar to what Columbia was doing with Karloff around the same time. The casting of Bogart throws it off. I have to wonder if the part he plays was intended for Karloff, who, I believe, had a multi-picture deal with Warners going back a few years. It gave him just one first rate film, The Walking Dead, which could also serve as an alternate title for this one.
