He really does feel almost like a completely different character in his own film from his depiction in Civil War. Take this scene, for example, you feel so much weight and presence to his character, the way he moves and his interaction and conversation with Zemo, demonstrating his strength and agility (moving silently as he removes his helmet. Apparently he doesn't make footstep sounds in the comics while in costume, a small detail the Russo bros. captured) to establishing his leadership as leader and king by recognizing the mistake he made ("Vengence is consuming you... " line) to also demonstrating how badass of a warrior he is when he prevents Zemo from killing himself and delivering "the living are not done with you yet" line. Obviously, the circumstances were a bit different in this film from Black Panther, but there were only a few moments in his own film where I felt he had this same weight and presence, but other times it was just lacking.

Absolutely better. I might go out and say he had more of an arc in CW than his own movie.

You know what, I actually do. Dare I say this, but T'Challa was the least interesting character in his own film. Now I won't say he wasn't interesting. I think it was because he really had his origin in Civil War. He truly became Black Panther in that movie. His own movie felt more like a follow-up to Civil War, where his interesting arcs were already handled.
Thankfully Ryan Coogler and his co writing made Black Panther more of an ensemble picture filled with memorable characters that strangely outshine the main character.

It's because his origin story sort of happened in Civil War than in his standalone film and he had more of a character arc.

I have been saying he had more of a story arc in Civil war. As we saw in Infinity, Tony hasn't moved forward & is very stuck where he was in CW which forces Steve to a position on the outside

Yes & which is why I don't own BP on blu, when CA CW captures his presence perfectly enough.

Plenty of people prefer Black Panther's portrayal to their own films. Anyone in the DCEU other than Wonder Woman, for example.
