It's got Hannibal Lecter fighting a bloody polar bear. I'm in!
TEXT:
In Arctic, the survivor of a plane crash in a frigid and icy wasteland lives using his wits as he waits for help to (hopefully) arrive. Things get messy when a long-awaited rescue attempt fails, as he then faces a life or death decision: stay in the relative safety of his camp and hope to be found or embark on a brutal trek that may be the only hope for both him and a badly injured stranger who is in his care. The movie comes from director Joe Penna, known better as YouTube's MysteryGuitarMan, who meticulously researched with actual experts and Arctic pilots to make sure everything depicted in the movie was accurate.
"There is a lot of research out there. Detailed resources. People who are more than willing to help. I also spoke with survivors of extreme situations to find out what went on in their minds. Before it happened, would they have thought this was something they could do? All of that went into the creation of what this character does and what drives him to a completely selfless act."
Joe Penna co-wrote the screenplay with Ryan Morrison. Arctic made its debut at the Cannes Film Festival last year and has been met with largely positive reviews thus far. The movie currently sits at a 92 percent approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with just a single negative review to speak of so far. That certainly bodes well for fans of this sort of intense, gritty survival flick. Arctic is set to hit theaters on February 9.
