I’m starting to think that the reason why the reshoots were so extensive is because Fox reacted to the success of Thor: Ragnarok. Because back in October Simon Kinberg said that the movie takes inspiration from Thor: Ragnarok. Except the original cut of Dark Phoenix finished filming before that movie released.
Similar to how New Mutants was said to be under extensive reshoots because of the success of IT. Making it more of a horror movie. It seems that Fox is playing the reactionary game like WB did with Suicide Squad.

Dont see any influence Ragnarok will have on the final product or reshoots. I thought the reshoots were fixing the last third of the movie.

Remember even when kinberg whose track record is not good still had the intelligence to know thor ragnarok should have had a different tone as marvel comic fans said?once again mcu fans proves they dont read comics.
please can you quote me the marvel comics where dark Phoenix and ragnarok were jokes like the movies.
I am not even the biggest fan of the appearance of the space fantasy of ragnarok but that was the film's smallest problem. if i remember correctly this was what kinberg was talking about for inspiration but instead the tone is different which was what was most important.

Well, Rogue One underwent extensive reshoots didn't it? It fared well afterwards.
