It was cancelled after season 4. Alyssa Milano had already left after season 2 when they moved production to Canada, Jennifer Esposito left after season 3 and Yunjin Kim had already announced she wouldn't be coming back after season 4 even if it was renewed. So ABC decided not to renew it for a 5th season. TVSeriesFinale.com- Mistresses

I discovered the show last summer, and to my enormous surprise I became a fan. It became a weekly habit with me, was getting hot, heavy and very edgy and then kerplunk, no sooner did I become a regular viewer than did that two part farewell. I even joined a message board on Mistresses, and I and many other fans of the series, actually a huge number, tried in vain to have it saved somehow. I think that the show had real legs. Also, I think it could have succeeded as a regular weekly series as a kind of semi-soap with real drama thrown into the mix. They had a great cast of characters and first rate actors to play them. I still can't believe that I actually went this route, as I seldom watch prime time television at all; nor do I watch three network type shows because they all feel like trash. Yet there's some real talent out there in TVLand but it's difficult for gifted people to get a foothold, even when they master a mainstream formula such as the one Mistresses had. I seriously believe that a spinoff for a regular season (Mistresses: A New Beginning,--whatever, could have a totally new title) might have been a surprise hit and run for years. Stranger things, much stranger things have happened on television,
