The first films were disappointing. Grandmere is the funniest character in the books, but they made her very bland in the films.

I kinda agree that the second one wasn't as good as the first one but after re-watching it a few times I didn't think it was that bad. As for who is directing it the last time Julie Andrews spoke about 'The Princess Diaries 3' a few years ago she said she would be interested in directing it and after the recent success she has had with directing her 'My Fair Lady' Broadway show which we had here in Australia she might be the right person for the job.

I remember like... maybe 5ish years ago, there being a rumour circulating that the PD3 plot would follow fertility struggles. I had wondered if it would be more like that Mia & Nicholas had married 2-3 years after she became Queen of Genovia, so that would have put them getting married in like 2007, and this movie was supposed to be in about 2012-2013 with the idea that they had only one child, and maybe Parliment was pushing them to have another child, plus Mia was dealing with actual political issues (immigration, legal drinking age limits, whatever), and other personal issues going on. But that a big thing would be Mia & Nicholas dealing with how hard it was to make sure they had time with their kid they've already got (probably a daughter, so she can be Queen- without bond of marriage, someday), so try to imagine juggling the crown, travel, security, their marriage, time with their first kid, training the first kid for the future as Queen (or King) of Genovia, and then add another child who would need the same love and care, plus security concerns, plus training for the future, and the general stresses of being parents of 2 rather than 1.

Yeah. I remember reading something about that too but I am not sure if they will use that now or not'cause it was a while ago as you said and some of those old rumours for movies do turn out to be true but they change the script. I am looking forward to seeing what they do either way and hoping it turns out to be a good movie. By the way, I heard recently if the movie is a success they could be looking to set up a fourth movie and that would be surprising if that happened especially since the last movie was 15 years ago and I can't recall a movie franchise that have come back and had another two movies this many years later aside from Horror movies.

I guess, technically now, they could still have Nicholas & Mia trying to juggle Kids/Marriage/Royalty/Security/Travel/Family, and we can see Mia working on issues that aren't directly with her (like the Queen/Marriage rule was), like Green Energy or Import Taxes. Then we can see how maybe Nicholas is not only Mia's right hand man, but also a bit of a Mr.Mom since maybe he doesn't travel as much as Mia is required to do as Queen, Joe and Clarisse still come in (you know Joe would spoil any little girls Mia & Nicholas might have) and do their Wise Grandparent thing, we could see Mia's little bro (Trevor?) who'd now be around the age she was when she found out she was a princess, and get to see how the Prime Minister/Charlotte/etc. are doing 15+ years down the road. As for a 4th, I guess maybe it could be a so-called "soft reboot" where it is technically a sequel-series, set in the same universe, but following the next generation. Like at the end of the 3rd PD movie, Mia gives her 13yr old daughter a diary and tells her how important it had been for her as a teen, keeping a diary. We see how the girl opens it and finds some letters with instructions on them, "Open on _date of her 15th birthday" or, "Open when you graduate high school", and nothing else is said about them, until the movie that is PRINCESS DIARIES 4/New Series #1, where new princess (Let's call her Josephine, after 'uncle Joe') is opening the letter meant for her on her 15th birthday. We find out these letters are from Clarisse, who wanted to make sure she could be of help even if she wasn't still around anymore (I'm not saying we get rid of Julie Andrews, Disney better keep her as long as she's willing!!!!), knowing that Mia had her hands full with 2 kids/Queenship/etc. as she was once in those same shoes, and also we find out that was part of why Mia's father wrote her notes because Clarisse and the late King Rupert had written letters to he and his brother, because it was an old world thing and it was also something that could be held onto, and read again when needed. And this new movie would be narrated at the beginning/end by Princess Josephine, the way Mia did the first three movies.
