I saw this on Saturday - pretty sure when I first read about it on IMDb, Lee Israel had a writing credit since it's based on her autobiography: she currently has an IMDb page but no credits at all... Anyone know what this is about? Nice enough movie btw, not sure why so many people have raved about it.

I'm interested in seeing this one. Melissa McCarthy is usually good in everything. I forgive her for The Happy Time Murders because I fell in love with her on Gilmore Girls.

I found Can You Ever Forgive Me? to be "pretty good," meaning above-average yet less than a full-fledged "good" film. It is rather amusing and engaging, but the overriding comedic tone proves too light for a story that—theoretically, at least—raises profound ethical questions. The result is a reasonably entertaining throwaway movie rather than the devilish black comedy that it could have been. Or, to phrase matters another way, the film's tone is too fluffy and flippant for a black comedy.

I'm only interested in seeing this for (hopefully soon to be Oscar winner) Richard E. Grant.
