I'm on Episode 4. -The THENARDIERS' room is right next to MARIUS' room and EPONINE knows there's a hole in the wall. Why don't they realize that he'll be able to hear their plans to con him? -MARIUS sniffing COSETTE's handkerchief and then following her and JEAN was creepy, but it was shown as romantic(?) -So many moments of JEAN trying to convince COSETTE not to trust people even if they seem harmless... and then she's the one who has to tell him not to trust EPONINE?

This might sound crazy, but I never knew they made a show of this. It is one of my favorite stories ever. Is it good? I might check this out.

I hadn't heard about it, so I checked the IMDb page. When I saw that Javert is played by David Oyelowo, who is black, I said to myself: "Forced Diversity Casting - this has to be a BBC production!".

This might sound crazy, but I never knew they made a show of this. Not at all. I don't feel like they've advertised it enough. I liked the first 3 episodes, but I hated this one. If you want to, do it, regardless of what I think. would this count as part of vits Les Miserables "franchise" ? I don't add my name to franchise's titles. I hadn't heard about it, so I checked the IMDb page. When I saw that Javert is played by David Oyelowo, who is black, I said to myself: "Forced Diversity Casting - this has to be a BBC production!". This is only an issue if there are no precedents of black law enforcers in 19th century France. I'm not an expert, so I don't know if there are or not.

I just finished it. Technically it was a competent production with a lot of good performances (especially Lily Collins), but why did this need to be 6 episodes long? It just served to highlight why, in all incarnations of the story, the 1st half is much better. It shows situations where the heroes doubt their beliefs. While there are evil characters, the true villain is the current situation that everyone has to live through every day. The 2nd half (after the big time jump) is about forbidden love and fighting against the system. Not that it's bad, just more traditional and less complex. Even though the last 2 episodes dragged (the finale was 75 minutes long!), JAVERT's decision to kill himself still felt rushed. Say what you will about the 2012 musical film, but at least I ended up caring about ENJOLRAS and his friends as well as GAVROCHE. Here, I felt nothing when they died. In retrospective, I don't get why in Episode 4 JEAN accidentally(?) peaks while COSETTE is changing herself. It never came back to the story. What were they hinting at?

I have two episodes left. Pretty good I reckon. Impressed by the production values and cinematography. (The early War scenes and Prison work scenes look amazing. Beautiful locations.) Yes some things are "modernized" in dialogue etc. But it's not a dealbreaker.
Very good casting as well. I'm impressed by Lily Collins and everyone else. You really get the sense life was hell.
Granted I read the book a long time ago. I haven't seen every version of the story. So I can't compare them aside from the 2012 musical or 1998 movie version. (The 1998 version I remember drops characters etc.)

I watched it recently and found that I much preferred the 2012 movie version. About the only thing I liked in the mini-series was Lily Collins’ performance as Fantine.
