It is expected though of regular members. I didn't say people were losing their homes making God happy, I just said "poorer". The Mormons have pushed "tithing" to s virtually mandatory requirement. A Mormon cannot participate in many aspects of their faith if they do not pay this. There is even an annual accounting of it with church leaders, and a formal record kept of compliance. This goes against what Jesus taught about offerings in my opinion. My parents' church didn't go quite that far, but pretty close. They regularly brought up what the Bible says about tithing to make it clear that that was what was expected of the faithful. They would embellish with "testimonials" of how God would return abundant blessings as a reward for exceptional giving, including financial blessings.

Malachi 3:10 "Bring you all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in my house, and prove me now herewith, said the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."

of course they have contributions but they aren’t mandatory. Bills gotta be paid. Services have to be provided, and kind hearts abound in church settings. No ones homeless or starving on the basis of charity It is expected though of regular members. I didn't say people were losing their homes making God happy, I just said "poorer". It's not making them any poorer than any other thing they spend money on, so poorer is the wrong word to use in the first place. Donations make up a part of one's standard of living. If people have the means to contribute, it doesn't affect their wealth at all just like an electric bill does not affect their wealth. At best, the statement could be that it costs money to be devout since our church needs money to survive.
