NO! I like Sinbad but we need a Red Sonya movie too. Just fire Singer and give Red Sonya to Sam Raimi.

LOL for once a movie with a pro-muslim angle wouldn't necessarily be inappropriate virtue signaling.

The older Sinbad's are classic and quaint. They will be boring with the new CGI effects, and just like all others. I would prefer Red Sonja, as long as it will be hardcore US 'R' rating. Why can't John Milius direct it, who did the original Conan, or even Oliver Stone? What do you reckon @deblovesbeccy ? By his admission, Milius has been shunned by Hollywood. That and a few of his movies flopped once too often.

By his admission, Milius has been shunned by Hollywood. That and a few of his movies flopped once too often. For what reasons has he been shunned? I think he has right wing conservative values, but if that is one of the reasons, it shouldn't take away from his skills and talents, which bring forth an epic quality and is just right for fantasy. Yeah tell me about it. Here's what he said about it:
"...I've always been considered a nut. They kind of tolerate me. It's certainly affected me. I've been blacklisted for a large part of my career because of my politics—as surely as any writer was blacklisted back in the 1950s. It's just that my politics are from the other side, and Hollywood always veers left."
Looking at his wiki page now, it seems unfortunate. Apparently John Milius had a stroke in 2010 and earlier in the 1990s he was the victim of embezzlement by his accountant who stole $3M from him. As I mentioned earlier, a lot of his later movies flopped hard so he moved to screenwriting and being a script doctor it seems. Stuff like The Hunt for Red October, Clear and Present Danger, Geronimo: An American Legend, oh and he co-created the HBO series Rome too? Didn't know that.

Or you could take a chance on a new franchise possibly.

So he has been tarred and feathered because of his personal politics. I am not right leaning, but I won't judge his work because of his politics. Clint Eastwood is a right leaner too, why hasn't he been blacklisted?
In spite of what has been seen as box office poison, his earlier works were money spinners. They even remade Red Dawn. He must've rubbed up the wrong people somehow.
Probably wouldn't give Weinstein a bj.

There were a number of high profile female directors offering to direct the movie when it was first announced and Gail Simone offered to write the script but instead they went with a Director who was the subject of controversy at the time and many people including writers of 'Red Sonja' comic books said was the wrong choice. Now he is out which many saw coming rather than replace him with another Director like most movies do when they lose a Director they have just dropped the movie and replaced it with another male lead movie. I don't think there were any true intentions of making the movie or they would be searching for another Director and it just sounds like more sexist BS on Hollywood's behalf.

Well, I am very disappointed to hear they have canned it, just because Singer is out. I have a bad feeling that they would have gone down the bloodless route anyway. That is why a suggested male directors who are renowned for their hard edged and epic approach to their projects. Milius gave us a tough and no-nonsense action sidekick in Valeria with his Conan - 82'. I didn't once question the believability of Bergman's character.
It sounds like they are scared, because of the female hero lead, and Singer's allegations are just an excuse to drop it.
Yeah. I am too and it definitely has everything to do with them being afraid of making a female lead comic book movie and they were just looking for an excuse to drop it in favour of another male lead Action movie. They go on about how Hollywood is so progressive and 'woke' now but it is nothing more than a sham and catch phrase they throw around to try and look good on paper 'cause the Bechdel Test was making them look bad. Hollywood is the same as they were before thinking that making a few gender swapped remakes makes them feminists and is positive female representation. Meanwhile novels and comic books surpassed them long ago with many unique and original female lead stories - some of which are written and created by the best female writers around today.

Actually, I think because of Aquaman that a Sinbad movie might be an easier sell now than ten years ago. That was a superhero movie more inspired by the heroes' quests of old like King Arthur and Sinbad because of the sea monsters, lost civilizations, and swashbuckler vibe. Plus Pirates of the Caribbean with a dash of Prince of Persia, they might do alright. Then again, I think I'm one of only eight people that liked PoP.

Red Sonja could and would work with the right and best brains behind the creative input. They are too invested in making movies to appeal to the millennials and following a tiresome formula that I personally, am finding very dull and boring. I use Aquaman as an example. Just the same scene over and over again in a different setting without much substance, integrity or originality behind the presentation. It doesn't matter who directs these superhero films, because they all turn out the damn same. I agree. It could work and this article below is a good example of that if they were to base it on Gail Simone's series but I sadly don't think they want to do it 'cause there are a lot of backwards old guys in Hollywood who are still against having female lead comic book movies with strong female characters who can fight and kick ass like Red Sonja. I completely agree with you about a lot of mainstream movies being repetitive and following the same formula all the time and Hollywood used to take risks and weren't afraid to push things to the limit or break new grounds but now we rarely see that happen. Comic Books go a lot further with violence, blood, gore, sex and nudity than any movies have and series like 'Hack/Slash', 'Razor' and 'Faust' are all examples of that butwith many comic book movies they are scared of showing a little blood and gore in case somebody gets grossed out.
