or grammar and punctuation?
I think it breaks the flow of the thread and derails it from the subject at hand.

I agree wholeheartedly. My spelling is generally excellent, as is my grammar, and with spellcheck both ought to be perfect, but sometimes they're not. The keyboards on computers/laps are too small in my opinion and that makes it easier to overlook a misspelling or mistake. Also, spellcheck and other "safeguards", including even the preview function, can give even a skilled writer a false sense of security, and on more occasions than I'd care to recall, I've goofed, and in some cases big time, and in ways that such things never happened when I was writing primarily in longhand and/or on a standard typewriter. Anywhoo, by all means, guys, let's ease up...

It was odd.. How do you mess up THAT badly? Because stuff happens. Is the world going to end? Just let it go.

Nowadays, I let it go. I used to be a real stickler for spelling, punctuation and grammar mistakes.
Viewing a few of my posts, it made me sound like I was talking like Russian comrade.
Instead of saying "I remembered to do that", I said, "I remember to do that".
No one corrected me on it.
One of my big pet peeves was 'I could of done a bit better'. It is could HAVE.
Same thing for would of, should of.....
It got to the point where I just accepted it.
On the old IMDB board, I remember this clear as day.
There was a poster from Sweden who made a post. He apologized for his lousy English.
I replied back, "You know - I understood what you were saying, and your spelling is a LOT better than some on here. AND, their first language is English!"

That's how ridiculous this is! Australia is becoming all authoritarian. I think that’s gone up in smoke now.

I work for a newspaper, and I caught one misspelling that would have been embarrassing if I hadn't caught it. The article was about a men's bowling league, and the cutline on the photo read, "This team of men have been blowing league champions..." I earned my pay that day.

Nope, unless someone spells lose as loose. I hate that one because it's so common yet I've never seen anyone misspell loser as looser, just strange to me.

I admit, I used to do this once in a while....but more from a "good student" frame of mind, rather than just looking to 'chastise' somebody. But now, in my older, "wiser" years, I've stopped doing that. Tolerance, and acceptance, and all that.....something I'm making an effort to work on in all facets of my silly little life these days.......... DAMN IT !! SAVE FERRIS

Reminds Catman of a student paper about capital punishment which kept mentioning 'pubic' hangings ...

IF the spelling error, or "typo," changed the meaning of the comment in a humorous way, and IF I had come to know the poster's personality, well enough to feel that we could exchange light "jabs," I might point it out ... adding a smiley face. Otherwise, it's unnecessary. There's no need to embarrass people.
I'm pretty fast on a keyboard, and I'm sure that I've made more than my share of mistakes. So far, fellow posters have been most merciful.

or grammar and punctuation? I think it breaks the flow of the thread and derails it from the subject at hand. no. It’s usually just someone’s ego taking over. Especially online, you don’t know what the person is typing on, what disorder they may have that influences it or what their first language is or if they really care at all why detract from what the debate is on. as long as you understand what they are trying to say which I admit there have been a few posts where I genuinely couldn’t get the meaning. On contrary I admire and feel thankful to all of you who tolerate my typos and I admit sometimes since I type as on my phone most of the times and also (very dangerous Do Not do it) as I walk I mistype a lot and I am amazed when someone still understands and replies so thanks
