The Frequency Illusion, also known as the Baader-Meinhoff phenomenon, is a cognitive bias which describes our tendency to see new information, names, ideas or patterns 'everywhere' soon after they're first brought to our attention.
3 common ones
you're interested in buying a certain new car and then all of a sudden you start to see it everywhere
A pregnant women will all of a sudden start to notice every woman that's pregnant
you learn a new word and then all a sudden you start hearing it and seeing it everywhere
Have you experienced any different ones?

Catman heard a nurse say, "Perfect!" in response to one of Catwoman's answers when she was in the hospital years ago, and he began hearing health care professionals of all kinds saying it. Catman imagines someday hearing the following exchange: Health Care Professional: So how are you doing?
Patient: I think I'm going to die.
Health Care Professional: Perfect!

I have frequency illusions more that most people do, something quirky about my mind. I find more 4-leaf clovers that anyone I know. Typos pop out at me. One of my long-time antique-hunting friends claims that when she professes an interest in a certain kind of antique, I go into scan mode and see nothing but that specific item and ignore the rest. I scan the grocery store aisles for my favorite brand of whatever, but when they change the packaging, I'm at a loss for a while.
It's fun to know that it has a name.

After I read this post, I kept seeing references to frequency illusions all over the place.

This is real I think. By far, for me, it's usually just terminology. It doesn't even have to be viral or newsworthy. I might learn or see a 'new' word one day & then hear & see it dozen more times in a month.

When I replaced my old CRT TV with a flat one, I couldn't get rid of the old one because it was so huge and heavy. Finally after months of it taking up space and me not figuring out how to bring it to a disposal centre, I hired a junk removal company to do it for me. After that, I started seeing their trucks everywhere.

I remember in college I was really into Pontiac Trans Ams (model year didn't really matter). I'd see them miles off in the distance on a highway.

Before you hired them your brain had no reason to recognize those trucks but after you became aware of them your brain had a reason to recognize them.
