10/10. It's probably my favorite horror film. It's Kubrick's masterpiece. Jack Nicholson has never been better.

Kubrick's movie from 1980. I corrected the release year in the original post (it said 1973).

I'll go with 8. Yes it's a good movie, but I understand Stephen King's complaints about it. Compared to the book, it does not hold up. imo anyway.

I'll go with 8. Yes it's a good movie, but I understand Stephen King's complaints about it. Compared to the book, it does not hold up. imo anyway. That's true of most of King's work on screen. There is so much inner dialogue and minute details related to the supernatural in his novels, it's almost impossible to translate it all to film. I feel they used the novel as a guide to make a great horror film, and it worked, as opposed to trying to capture the magic that is in the book and failing (as I feel the TV movie did, but that's my opinion). The movie stands on it's own, but owes the book for what it is that makes it so exceptional.
